That is true. You can also adjust your privacy settings. Don't share your information publicly. Adjust it so that only your friends can see your information. And only accept friendship requests from people you actually know - in real life. (with the exception of your All Deaf friends, of course! )

I regularly check my privacy settings (every time I add a new application, for example,) to make sure that everything is set for "allow only friends".
