Its done automatically, how do you find your SK's IP address, okay go to the main menu, then click Top left button, then click network status, then you should see network status dialog box, then press top left button AND M key at same time. It will change the info, and IP address is shown there on first line of listing. :)
Sidekicks use a private IP address that is not seen on the internet. All sidekicks go through a NAT (Network address tranalation) firewall. It is simular to what most broadband users use on their home networks. Below is the list of private IP ranges...
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
At work, we use "10" addresses for computers who need to access anything on our intranet, but nothing on the internet.

Your right, but there is more than that. Don't you know that anyone can trace to whereabout of your sidekick down to about 5 feet! Thats mandatory by FCC due to 911 system requirement. I think it is good regulation. Yes, if you dial 911 and you didn't response, believe me, 911 dispacher will be able to find where you are down to 5 feet!!! For example, if your being attacked by somebody, and you press 911, and forget it, then cops will be showing up in your area within 5 minutes (Depending on location).
