Hi. My name is Christine and I am a speech-language pathology graduate student at Montclair State University. I'm currently taking Aural Rehabilitation as a class and one of the assignments is to interview a hearing impaired adult, or the parent(s) of a hearing impaired child. If anyone would like to help out I'll post the questions. It would be much appreciated! :ty:

questions

These are the questions:

1.) When was your (or your child's) hearing loss first discovered? How?
2.) What did you/your parents do when they found out?
3.) How old were you/your child when you/they first got a hearing aid? How has it changed your/their life?
3a.) If you do not use hearing aids, is there a specific reason?
4.) What was the reaction of others to your/your child's hearing loss/hearing aids? Friends? Relatives? Kids at school? Teachers?
5.) What kind of school did you/your child attend? Did you/they receive special help? What kind?
6.) As you/your child got older, how did the hearing loss affect your/their social life?
7.) How did your/your child's hearing loss affect your/their ability to receive an education? A job? To marry? To care for your children?
8.) If you had/have a child with a hearing loss, what kind of educational environment would you recommend?
9.) Would you recommend a cochlear implant to others?
10.) How do you feel about performing cochlear implants on children?
11.) How are you/your child perceived by the deaf community? How does this make you/your child feel? Do you/they fit in?
12.) Do you feel that the professionals you have dealt with (speech pathologists, audiologists, teachers etc.) were responsive to your/your child's needs? What advice would you offer to them if you could?

If you/your child received a cochlear implant:
1.) Why did you decide to have a cochlear implant?
2.) Can you describe the way you hear speech now to the way you heard speech with a hearing aid? What are the pros and cons of each?
3.) How has the implant changed your/your child's life?
4.)Many people with cochlear implants find that they are hard to get used to and do not like them. Did you find it difficult to get used to?
5.)If you had to do it again, would you have the cochlear implant?
6.)Would you recommend a cochlear implant to others?
