Internet Caller ID

Hello!

I just registered with the AllDeaf.com forum recently; and I want to ask about the Internet Caller ID. Has anyone been using it on their computer, as of late?

I have been using the traditional Caller ID via the phone provider; and I've decided that it's not worth much anymore, since I have been using my computer 24 hrs a day. I was thinking about using Internet Caller ID, so when it pops up on my screen, it would automatically notify me that someone's calling and I'd reply back with either requesting to leave a msg via voice mail, or answer it immediately.

Another thing is, that since I am a Mac Lover (please, no offense to Windows lovers!) I was thinking about getting the SOFTTTY, although, I'm afraid that it may not provide voice mail - because I'd usually have hearing people drop their msgs much easier. That's why I don't mind receiving their msgs via voice mail by using Internet Relay.

So, I'd love any feedback on Internet Caller ID !

Thanks!

What you don't explain is how you're receiving phone calls: Are you going to be using a computer modem hooked up to a standard house telephone line that will monitor your calls, or are you going to use an internet phone like Vonage which you'll be using broadband (i.e., DSL, Cable Internet, satellite internet, etc.) to make and receive calls over the internet?

You still have to pay monthly for the caller ID service from the phone company if you just want a software program on your computer that will tell you what the caller's ID is. Do a google search for "caller ID software".

I don't know if internet phones offer caller ID.

Hi Dennis,

Yes, I've been using the computer modem, hooked up to a standard telephone line (Dial-Up, but plans on getting DSL or Cable Modem - haven't decided yet); and of course, I already have researched the huge volume of information based on Internet Caller ID, via "Google".

There are three companies, BuzMe.com, InternetCallManager.com, and CallWave.com, for which I'm more interested in, since they are cheaper than the one I'm currently using via my phone provider (Qwest). Will still need one of their software downloads; and pay the monthly service charge - just all I have to do is to cancel my Caller ID/Voice Mail account with Qwest (except keep the basic phone service, or even considering to switch over to a different, better one for lower price on basic phone service).

As long as you've got the monthly service, you're golden. I'm not able to make any recommendations as to which software you should purchase for your computer, I mean, just as long as it's compatible with your local phone service provider's phone codes. It all depends on if they're using SS7 or some other kind of cooked up system.

Yes, that is true; and thank you anyway, for your feedback. :ty:

I'm just basically looking for any feedback/comments, based on Internet Caller ID's via these websites or any another company - is it reliable, useful, a good customer service, etc? Things like that. That's why I thought that maybe the deaf/hoh community may have had experience using it or not. :fingersx:
