Hey guys,
I subscribe to InsightCinema's webpage and receive local open caption movie listings once or twice a month. They sent out an announcement which I thought would be worth sharing with fellow members and Deafies on AllDeaf. I already donated a few dollars to their cause!
Please donate and make this advertisement campaign a success!

Philip/Deaf258Insight Cinema and Marlee Matlin said:Dear Friend of InSight Cinema,
As we begin 2005, I recognize that I have a lot to be grateful for. Being deaf hasn't stood in the way of having a career or raising a family. And it's easier than ever for me to enjoy some of life's pleasures. For example, I can now go out to the movies and actually understand what the story is about.
It may not seem like much, but for me and 30 million other deaf and hard-of-hearing Americans, it's a wonderful thrill to be able to go to a local multiplex and share an evening of movies with friends and family.
Much of the thanks for this goes to InSight Cinema and its founder, Nanci Linke-Ellis. In the late 1990s, Nanci helped initialize and popularize the idea of first-run, big-screen captioned movies. And since she launched InSight Cinema two years ago, she and her company have worked hard to create relationships with movie studios, movie theaters and the hearing-impaired. Captioned movies also help those with literacy issues, such as the millions who speak English as a second language.
But while more and more Hollywood films are being captioned -- and more theaters are willing to schedule captioned movies -- the difficult job of getting the word out to millions of potential viewers still remains. InSight Cinema has been busy working on increasing access and awareness, through our website, automatic e-mails, Internet links and other venues.
But we need your help.
To date, there has been no systematic, nationwide approach to marketing captioned movies. We hope to change this. But getting the word out is going to be expensive. More to the point, it's simply beyond InSight Cinema's resources at present.
Your contribution will help millions of your fellow Americans share in our culture, laugh with their families and enjoy one of my greatest pleasures, movie-going.
Back in 1987, when I was honored as Best Actress with an Academy Award for "Children of a Lesser God," it was easier for a deaf person to star in a movie than attend one. We've made great strides since then, but the work has just begun.
Won't you join me in helping America's millions of hearing-impaired enjoy the big screen movie experience? I know they'll have a lot to be grateful for, too.
