Ingleburn firefighter awarded for service to deaf - Emergency Services - News - Macarthur Chronicle Campbelltown Edition
AN INGLEBURN firefighter was recognised with a NSW Government Community Service Award on Wednesday for his service to the local deaf community.
Campbelltown state Liberal MP Bryan Doyle presented Louis Hese with the award for his continuing work to develop fire alarm strategies for the deaf or hearing impaired.
“In 2006, Mr Hese identified the need to develop smoke detectors to protect people who are deaf/hearing impaired,” Mr Doyle said.
“This project, which was started in Campbelltown initially, installed hardwired smoke detectors enhanced with a strobe light and vibration system.”
Mr Hese was able to develop the special alarms after receiving funding in partnership with Deaf Health to install free fire alarms in the homes of more than 20 deaf or hearing impaired families in the Campbelltown area.
“I was pleased to present Mr Hese with his award, another example of the good work being done here in Campbelltown,” Mr Doyle said.
