Indy Couple Accused Of Claiming Money Meant For Katrina Victims - Indiana News Story - WRTV Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis couple was indicted by a federal grand jury for claiming $22,000 meant to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Jimmy Alexander, 38, and Dawn Alexander, 34, were indicted Wednesday for conspiracy and theft of public money following an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, said Assistant U. S. Attorney Bradley Shepard.

The Alexanders are accused of filing multiple phony documents with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, claiming at Jimmy Alexander was a resident of New Orleans and that his home was damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

Shepard said the couple received about $22,000 from the Hurricane Katrina relief program. They could each face a maximum possible prison sentence of 10 years.
