Indonesian students protest Barack Obama's visit

What is their reason for that? I don't see anything in the article that would points to the reason why.

I think that is terrible when they slandered him and trying to destory his family history heritage, even if his step father had married his mother. That is not fair anyway. The students and the authorities are wrong for doing that to President Obama. Have a lot of heart and respect for him as he is trying his best to be the first black President. No body is perfect. He knows that. Geez.

Indonesian Students Protest Barack Obama's Visit

Scores of Islamic students staged protests outside Jakarta's parliament and in at least three other major Indonesian cities on Friday against President Barack Obama's upcoming visit to this predominantly Muslim country.

The students carried banners branding Obama as an enemy of Islam and an imperialist in downtown Jakarta as well as in the provincial capitals Padang, Yogyakarta and Surabaya.

They also threw shoes at large pictures of Obama's head. An Iraqi journalist was sentenced to a year in prison for throwing his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush during a news conference in Baghdad in 2008.

Protest organizer Ahmad Irhamul Fikri, spokesman for the Coordinating Board for Campus Proselytizing Institute, said bigger rallies will be staged next Friday in more Indonesian cities ahead of Obama's March 20-22 visit.

Such demonstrations of hostility toward Obama are rare in Indonesia, where he enjoys widespread popularity because he spend part of his childhood in Jakarta while his mother was married to his Indonesian stepfather.

Local government officials allowed business people to erect a statue of a 10-year-old Obama in a Jakarta park in December. But it was shifted last month to a nearby elementary school that he attended after more than 50,000 people supported a Facebook campaign against it and court action was threatened.

Obama is expected to sign the statue's pedestal while in Jakarta.

Many Muslims see Obama as turning his back on his heritage. They consider him a Muslim and see his denial during the campaign as the ultimate slap in the face.

Their view....not mine

Obama - stop visiting and get back to work!

Thank you for clearing that up for me. You are right that that is their views. They are just mad at him for not being a Muslim. He had chosen a different religion if that is what he want. It is about freedom. Forcing someone (like Obama) to be like them. Everyone should be free to make a choice of what they would like to have a better life. If Muslim think that their own religion is better than any other religion, then the Muslim is not alone and everyone is trying to tell different minority people that any religion (like Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Jehovah's Witnesses or different religion) is better than our views or their views. I see the point. No freedom of choice.

No surprise because it is just Islamist radical students that labeled US as imperialist, even we are not imperial country, period.

That is what I suspected but the article didn't say that.
