Im guessing they got arrested, tarr'd n' feathr'd, then hung.

Yes, you got the general sense of it. Some disappeared, too, probably for the worse.

You win the bonus award.

They were jailed, tortured and/or killed because they believed in something much greater than communism..

:ty: for proving my point. twice.

Sorry. You lost out....after the fact.

correct me if I'm wrong but China is currently a communist state and continue to have a poor record of human rights?

You didn't answer my clue which showed clearly the history of democracy in action which was already clear of the consequences of that form of activism. You lost out. Now, political activism isn't the same as environmental activism which is on a much more benign form of protest which is not to be confused with the actual political protest (ie. against the govt).

That was made clear in my clue "1989" if you knew anything about that pivotal moment in China's history.

how can I lose if this thread is about environmental activism and you're going on about political activism?

Again - I've already shown you specific links especially from Amnesty International that environmental activists (mainly leaders) have been arrested and tortured with trumped up charges. Many news have continued to report Chinese's continual abuse of environment despite of "grassroot" efforts to improve the situation.

Now - why I asked you about 5,000 years of Chinese history? Look at what they have done to environment. Political activism? Tienanmen Square? lol that's off-topic.
