Seems that two detectives may have lied under oath while testifying against this perpetrator. Two wrongs don't make a right, so until that's sorted out, he has the right to a new trial.

Since he's innocent until proven guilty, he is allowed to maintain his innocence with his personal freedom until they prove he broke the law. He gets to make bail until new trial just like every other possibly innocent person.
