If you had a choice for eating out, which would you choose?

Let's say there are multiple restaurants in your area of living. If you wanted something to eat, where would you go? A restaurant like McDonald's or a privately owned business? For me? I would go for privately owned business, because the food options are bigger, and plus, it's cheaper. For example, a grilled cheese and french fries costs just under $5.50, while a meal at McDonald's costs nearly $7, and that's without the drinks included. With drinks, it's over $8, and at this business, it's under $8, so that's perfect for me.

What would you choose, and why?

I would like to try places owned by small business owners and not chain restaurant. There are a lot of them in Chicago area. Try to keep money in community. Eat local food instead.

I agree-- small restaurant businesses are better.

say what?

It depends on why I'm buying dinner not making it. If it's for convenience sake and I want something cheap and fast, because yes they're cheaper, I'll go to McD's or Burger King. But if I'm going out for dinner I'm not going to get a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries, I'm going to get a nice meal.

It was cheap-- that, and the fact there was a bunch of snow around here, and I needed to focus on where I was going, and I also know which sections of sidewalk are least likely to be slick. I have to consider everything when buying a meal, and safety is one of them with snow on the ground.

:laugh2:...slippin' & slidin' on down to McD's....Reminds me of Seinfield (TV show)...Every time he came into Jerry's apartment, he slid in....

Guessing too....you could get ya a Rollator with wheels...and zoom a little faster?

Now that's something to think about next year. Anyways, small restaurant businesses tend to offer more fresher food than chain restaurants, and they taste way better. I still like chain restaurants, but mainly Little Ceasar's (Italian Cheesesticks, anyone?) and Subway.

Let's do more of those, shall we? Next time we meet, I know another small business on Clark just north of where we met.

Yes, I will be more than happy to visit other small business owned restaurant on Clark. Rogers Park neighborhood would use more money as they continue to improve the neighborhood.

I agree. FYI-- that picture of us at that gyros place has been moved from my laptop to a removable disk, in case something happens to this laptop. Never know, do I?

It depends on what I am craving. There are tons of privately owned restaurants in my area and some are really great but sometimes, I really crave lettuce wraps from P.F Changs :)

I'm the same way-- small businesses ARE great, but sometimes I just gotta have those Italian Cheesesticks with Garlic Butter. Think it's time for me to quit eating McD's for a while, and focus on small businesses I can order from.

Do you know what a combo is? A combo is a meal with fries/hash brown and a drink to save money.

BTW, I notice more people order fast food by drive-thru so they eat them at home or on the way to work/school. Regular restaurants don't have a drive-thru. Also a lot of elders sit in McDonald's or others like Del Taco for free coffee refills during early morning.

As for my family, we usually drive thru to order fast food when we don't feel like cooking. My kids' favorite is In-n-Out Burgers. On special occasions like birthdays, we eat in a fine food restaurant like Red Lobster, Olive Garden or Maggiano's.

Cool. Good to save picture. The more places we try, the more fatter the disk will get. I would love to see disk weight balloon so much that it needs to go on a weight loss program.

I do like nicer places such as Red Lobster and Olive Garden for special occasions.

We usually like Wendy's as it is very cheap.

And Red Lobster is a favorite for celebration.

I eat at fast food restaurants only if it's convenient while were on the road. Otherwise, I prefer family style restaurants like Noisy Oyster, Gilligan's Seafood, Bubba Gump's, local Mexican, or Robert's BBQ. For buffet or take out, I prefer Asian. For group dining we usually go to Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday's, Chili's, or local chains. For special occasions we go to R.B.'s on Shem Creek.

My parents never took us to fast food joints. I think I was about 12-13 when I had my first McDonald's burger. My dad believed eating out meant sit-down restaurants where the customer was served. The only exception was when traveling; then we would stop at local diners. (Absolutely no food or drinks allowed in the car.) He refused to use salad bars at restaurants. He would give the waiter his salad order and let the waiter get it from the salad bar. (He did tip well.)

If I'm in a hurry and need to be cheap, Taco bell has cheap meals.
