Boise, Idaho News, Weather and Traffic - KTRV Fox 12 - Idaho Stampede Player Inspires Deaf & Blind

Idaho Stampede player, Lance Allred is noboby's victim, that's what he explained to a group of children from the blind and deaf community.

Even though, Allred was born hearing impaired, and still had trouble speaking at the age of 10, he has had an incredible career.

He is currently a forward for the Idaho Stampede, but before that he was America's first deaf NBA player, scoring baskets for the Cavaliers.

He wants those with disabilities to know that they too can reach their highest goals and should never use their challenges as an excuse for failure.

"In this world people aren't really going to accommodate you and people aren't going to bend over backwards just because you really have a disability. It's really still up to you to take control of your life and setting goals for yourself and trying to achieve what you want to achieve," said Allred.

Allred has written a book about his experiences, called long shot. It's being published by Harper Collins and will be available for purchase in late May.

Well known basketball sportscaster, Dick Vitale, got an advance copy and calls Allred's work a must read, that will inspire and entertain at the same time.
