i711 won't let me register

It is one way to prove to IP relay provider that this client is indeed Deaf or Hoh and can help fill out form and get this straightened out. Sometimes relay reps don't believe the application and won't process. So VR is one way, or disability rights.

What about audiologists? They do sign their signatures on the application form, even attached a copy of audiogram.

Either that VR or audiologist will do. Disability Rights agency? I never heard that they do that.

Amazing- the "problems of using 711" in the United States.

My experience using 711 here in Canada was simple-dial 711 and have a TTY phone.
I am not registered. I have used the service since January 1995. Still -to this day.
aside: My cochlear Implant does not pick up the "other party's voice" . Thus just continue using 711.

Is the US experience replicated in other countries-around the world?

you are not live USA.! It is very Canada FCC wait for patient. you don't need to worry..

USA not allow Canada because FCC implentation said sorry. can't register "711

Canada will only spread to coming sooner sorenson will coming soon! I let know you!

I have the Captel 840i and so far I don't like it. Had a hard time registering the phone so it could be used because they don't allow captions before its registered. I made it through registration eventually and when I went to make a test call, the message in red telling me I have to register the phone to use it is still on the screen. I also hate the bright screen, it's going to keep me awake at night. I'm determined to get this to work, otherwise I'm returning it and asking for a TTY.

Did it come with a manual or is there one that can be downloaded? I ask because it would probably tell you if the screen brightness can be adjusted. I have found it common for devices that have lighted screens to have a way to adjust how bright they are.

Did you get to make that test call? I don't have one but thinking maybe that red message disappears after you make the test call.

Being oral with no knowledge of sign a TTY in combination with the state relay service (Illinois in my case), a regular phone and VCO works well for me on my landline. I still need to make a few more calls with the Android version of CapTel from Hamilton to see how well it works with what cell service I can get here.

I went through the entire manual, it didn't list anything that would help, but I did figure out the screen brightness has three settings, the lowest setting I have it on now is still so bright, it illuminates the entire room and prevents me from sleeping. I covered the phone with a notebook to block some light so I could finally sleep.

The test call didn't go through and the red message is still there.

No,I do know sign, I just never get a chance to use and improve it since nobody else here seems to know it. I'll ask the place that gave me the captel what I should do.

Saavik, we apologize for the trouble you've experienced registering for i711. If you could PM us your contact info, we can pass that on to a senior Customer Care representative who will be able to help you out.
An alternative is to visit Help & Support - Purple Communications and look for the purple button titled "Customer Care Chat Live" like you see below - where you can reach a Customer Care representative via text chat who will be able to help you register.

Please also let the representative know what you experienced so that they can share your feedback with the i711 team.
Again, sorry about the trouble!

Thank you for helping Saavik. She's happy with i711 register works with her own tablet now.

Yes, I placed a test call to my parents number and it worked perfectly. Many thanks! Hopefully this thread can help others that had the same issue registering.

i711 won't place my calls anymore. It worked when I last posted here, now it says my email isn't registered. What is going on here? I need to make an important call an i711 let me down.

did you get an email from Purple/i711 to confirm you registration or something like that? I registered with i711 YEARS ago, before all the changes to the registration process, so I have no idea how it is nowadays. :\

Sorry about that, Saavik. We see that you've been in touch with one of our techs and the issue has been resolved. Is that correct?

After contacting the person you put me in contact with originally, he got it running again.

I am well aware I live in Canada and do use TTY. My experience is correct. I have used my UltraTech 1140 since 1996.

Aside: i am bilateral DEAF since December 20, 2006. Notwithstanding I have a Cochlear Implant which I can "hear the dial tone" but not persons speaking. Thus disconnect my implant when using my VCO TTY.

aside: from Sunnybrook/Toronto: in their experience since 1984-one out of two Implanted persons were unable to use a regular phone.

Aside: my brother has the same Implant as I have- can use a regular phone.

aside: still no concern of mine.

Whether DEAF a person wants to use a VCO TTY is entirely up to you. For the "voice - off"subset it possible to use TEXT TTY. Only problem other party must have a TEXT TTY.

aside my UltraTech 1140 does have TEXT capability. I have used with the Canadian Tax department

Whether Sorenson or Purple et al come here to Canada- not a concern of mine. I will still access 711 using my VCO TTY.

To the best of my knowledge the US agency FCC has nothing to do with Canada-at the present time.

Aside: my TTY has not broken down and I don't consider it a "lemon" Whether others have different options/opinions -up to them.

TTY device is old news for home only. It's always broken, lemon and won't last forever. I don't like TTY.

We talked about "i711 relay" issues on computer, smartphone, tablet for travel. Saavik is ready for back to college with her own tablet device for emergency and/or contact to her family matter, anyway.

i711 appears to NOT be something of interest to those of use like Dr. Phil and myself that want to use VCO and NOT text.

i711 is a computer programme NOT a telephone system. Thus VCO or TEXT would no application. Thus if one wants to use i711 contact Purple/ Sorenson et al

aside My UltraTech 1140 VCO TTY is hooked into the telephone line.

Oh, you can't afford smartphone for travel or college? haha, TTY sucks!

Dr. Phil is in his 70's. I don't think he has much interest in college.

As for saying TTY sucks! Don't make a blanket statement please. Some of us find it very convenient especially for home use. My landline connects into my TTY and a regular voice phone connects to it. To make a call I turn on the TTY, hold down control and redial keys at the same time. When the State Relay's answer comes across the screen I pickup the phone and voice the number I am calling. The VCO is on for the whole call. To answer I turn the TTY on hit the space bar and they pick up the phone saying Hello go ahead if you have made a Relay Call. My preference is on file with the Relay Service and the VCO is on based on that.

I do have a smartphone for when out and about. There are some problems with cutting in and out with either of the CapTel services I have tried for a one phone solution on any of the providers available here. AT&T is completely unusable as they have the area I am in stuck on Edge.

After going around and around trying to a phone number for my purple relay, which for the iPhone is i711, and after a very bad experience using purple on my comp I pretty much gave up using a relay service. Today though I really really needed to make a call, so I gave it a shot. Low and behold I have a phone number yay!!! Do I made my call. Omg it took forever, but not as bad as the operator when I used my comp, that was a joke. It was like an 8 year old was typing. So it was sloooow going, but went well. Phew!
