I just found out about i711 and was immediately interested. I go to sign up and it gives me this error message..

"Registration Error
Could not verify identity. Please contact Customer Care at help@ip-relay.com."

I emailed them, but aside from that, I don't know what to do here and I'm about to just give up on this.

Sorry, just be patience. It is due to FCC regulations that requires verification that your are actually Deaf, deaf, HOH, hoh, and unable to use telephone the traditional way. You should thank those who have abused in the past, no more instant registration.

Too bad, I can't shoot you for $12 dollars as spending next 25 years in prison ain't worth 12 dollars!

So what do I do then and what does that mean?

Back to the subject, what do I need to do to get registered since it won't let me?

Contact them directly discuss how to prove yourself that your Deaf or HoH.
There is no way around the system, FCC made it stricter and clearer after discovered years of abuses. You got friends with VP? Its much easier go that way, because they are gonna ask you to show them your drivers license and THEY want talk with you directly not your friend.

Forget it then, not worth the hassle, I'll just remain doing everything by email.

I had the same hassle and even followed directions emailing them with a scanned copy of my driver's license and SSN but got zero response.

Instead I managed to work my way in by signing in to AIM and chat with i711Relay by saying "call 123 456 7890". Yes I was making a fake call but I was just trying to get some kind of response and I got some kind of automated registration set of questions. They ask questions that you would get if you apply for a loan such as "Which of the following are your previous address?", "Which company do you have a credit card with?", etc...

By answering the questions correctly i was able to finally "register" and make calls. So might want to go on AIM and make a fake call just to register.

By giving them your personal information tells them you are deaf or HoH? I thought the only proof we were deaf or HoH was through an audiologist with paperwork on it.

No, it just verifies that you are indeed who you claim you are.

The reason for the registering is that hearing people had been abusing the relay service to make calls so that they can "hide" behind the relay service. So they're forcing this new registration to confirm your identity.

Just tried that and it keeps giving me the same error. Their site lies, this isn't quick or easy. I'm all out of ideas how to get on the relay service.

Im sorry, history of abuses, thanks to stupid hearing people trying to take advantage of free service by pretending they are deaf or HOH. Even CODA themselves lied too to get VP or whatever to get free long distance calls at FCC expense.

You can bet your ass, I have heard thousands of times from CODA, Deaf people with hearing parents, by trying to apply for them but really for their hearing parents or hearing kids. Yes, many of them busted doing them and it is illegal.

Curious, do you sign or oral?

I went around and around with that!!! It's been months, I still haven't tried again, maybe they have me straightened out, I don't know. I could use the purple relay on my computer, but it was a joke! The relay operator typed so slow it was ridiculous, and one point they actually typed "talking too fast". The person on the other end hung up because I was waiting on the operator to type.....one.......word.....at......a.....time.

It has made me completely leery of trying to use it again

This is exact why I wanted to respect hearing people for allowing me to make conversation with them using VRS rather than text based. I would completely understand when hearing people hang up over period of time. To them it is like taking an hour on call that could be done in 10 minutes.

I sign and I'm oral, but I never get to use ASL because I'm alone in my area, nobody here signs.

I signed register since 2009. My i711 relay in my AIM still work and active already.
