I Want A Motorcycle...

as of last year - inspection and emission test are no longer required for motorcycles in NJ. maybe it will soon be legal in NJ??? :dunno:

In California, any motorcycles, 2 cylinder or less, and 2 stroke (2 cycle) engines excluding rotary engines, are exempted from smog check.

About 5 years ago, I found my favorite LawnBoy rotary lawnmower with 2 stroke engine online but they can't ship to California. I feel like I have some friends who live in Arizona, can get a new LawnBoy lawnmower for me, then I can come to pick up it and bring it to my town.

Just remember, when considering this....

While bikes can be fun, it can also be dangerous. Without the protection of "armor" surrounding your body, you're open for a world of a hurt. So practicing safety is job one and being aware of your surroundings is also equally job one.

Helmets is a must, don't buy a cheap one. Invest a really super good helmet that can not only protect your head, but also withstand major impacts. Having a helmet that can split on impact is a very bad thing.

I recall my mother telling me a story whereas she was in the hospital for some major medical problem and had to stay overnight. While she was there, she could hear screams from someone in a very severe pain. She initially thought it was someone not far from her room. Turns out the screams was coming from the other wing of the hospital. That pretty far.

She made some inquiries (long before medical disclosure was made illegal today) and this poor guy was in a motorcycle accident. He can around a corner too fast to see a 18 wheeler backing out into the street. He tried to "slide" underneath the trailer, but he didn't drop down fast enough and his crown got caught into a steel wire that you would see underneath those trailers. It took the top of his skull off and he was wearing a cheap helmet. His brain was exposed.

No pain medication could dampen the pain he was experience, it was so bad that he died overnight.

She said she'll never forget the screams that went on all night, she'd have nightmares every now and then, even something a sound that would trigger her memory.

I'm just saying this cuz I care and want to see everyone practicing safety and be safe always.

So yeah, go have fun having a bike, but please be safe while you're at it.

RIDE ON!

Yiz

:Ohno:

I think the sound of agonizing screaming is much worse than witnessing an accident.... and I did witness a motorcycle accident right in front of my eyes. It didn't affect me at all. not a single bit... but what did affect me was the screaming.... from my mom.

you just can never forget it because it will be that same screaming if my mom hears about my motorcycle accident from hospital or cop :(

However.... did the thought of that prevent me from riding? no. I can die from something else and I rather not die with regret that I didn't live my life to fullest

Yiz, Jiro, you both have some awesome points.

I do appreciate you Yiz for looking out for my safety. I do plan on taking a Safety Course even if I just get a scooter instead of a motorcycle. Driving in general does scare me... but I can't always be afraid of the worst.

Like Jiro said, we only live once, live life to its fullest.

Yeah I know. If I were you, I'd invest in the best helmet that money can buy first before I make the nest step. Even if later you don't get a bike, at least you have a good helmet you can wear and trust to protect your head if you so happen to ride with someone on a bike. You can't go wrong with investing on the best helmet that can could help save your life.

you don't have to break your wallet to buy the best helmet money can buy.

There are plenty of cheap helmets that's as good as expensive helmets. As long as it's Snell-rated... that's good enough. There are handful of Snell-rated helmets going on sale for as cheap as $50!

It's not the cheap helmet that kills you... it's the sudden stop. What will save your life is training.

There are more cheap helmets in Ebay and all are DOT approved. I have TMS flip up helmet. I don't have problem with it and it's as good as expensive helmets.

Over here in Cali the helmet has to be DOT approved.

it's federal law for all helmets to be DOT-approved but its standard is low. I prefer wearing one that is Snell-approved. Scorpion brand is a good decent helmet for cheap and it's both DOT & Snell-approved.

My husbands an experienced rider he had a suzuki 600 02' many years ago and also had a Honda CB as well. I've been wanting to get a bike for myself and from what he's told me a Honda Rebel is a great starter bike. I have yet to attempt to get on another bike and drive it...heh, I wrecked his bike in my dads backyard!

one day...anyone here have experience with the Rebel? Ladies?

Edit: forgot to add that the Suzuki 600 was the GSXR

I had a Rebel when I was 15 years old.. It is a nice motorcycle and a great starter bike..

What is even a better starter is a bicycle when even younger. :D

The rebels look like they are fun to ride provided they are not too heavy. I'd like to be able to sit on the bike at a stop light low enough so my knees slightly bend vs, being on my tip toes driving my husbands GSXR....that was a nightmare. Balance was a big issue on the GSXR. How was it on the rebel for you?

Hubby says that if we had to he could lower the suspension for me-would that affect how it rides though? :) I sat on a rebel three years ago at the local bike shop so my memory as to how low they actually sit I don't remember...need to look them up on youtube which is what I'm about to do.

Having feet flat on the ground when stopped is very important in term of contrl. Lowering the bike would make the ride stiffer so if going over a bump, you'll feel it alot more than normal. All you have to do is slow down before going over bump and won't be too bad.

That doesn't sound too bad :) If all goes well in two years after hubbys truck is paid off we're both going to get bikes :) the Rebel will be mine if he will allow me to still get one. His opinion is that a woman is supposed to ride on the back of one, not drive one.

sexist I know...he said if I got one he wouldn't cruise with me. That I belong on the back of his.

pfft...please.:laugh2:

Personally I would perfer my SO to ride on back with me.. I would feel closer that way but wouldnt' have a problem if she wanted a bike of her own.
