That February 12, 2009 will be the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. Since I was a kid I had been reading a lot about Lincoln and I consider him one of the best Presidents America ever had despite the Civil War.

It would be a fitting legacy for Barack Obama to be elected and inagurated as the 44th President of the United States on January 20, 2009. Obama knew the legacy of Lincoln and his conduct of the Civil War. Even Obama has a picture of Lincoln in his Senate office didn't y'all know that? During the Civil War Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation that freed all the slaves that were in Southern territory occupied by the Union Army.

It will be simpler to remember that Abraham Lincoln's Republican party is NOW Barack Obama's Democratic party. So this year, we will see a true successor to Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt (a progressive Republican), FDR, and JFK that with some of LBJ and Jimmy Carter tossed in for a good measure :)

Honest Abe would be smilin' up in Heaven knowing what he started would be going on good.

I agree, sablescort! I never thought about the connection between an Obama legacy and a Lincoln legacy. Interesting!

I agree. I admired him for doin' good job. He even signed on paper to let the black slaves free. That's what I like about Abraham Lincoln.

That's because, Abraham Lincoln was the only President who set the black people to go free - those black people could be Obama's ancestors/descenants. Do you think Obama is not goin' to get shot just like Abraham Lincoln when John Booth shot him ? Let's pray that there's not goin' to happen.

Agreed, salbelscort! And especially fitting since he also accepted the Democratic party's nomination on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech.

I wasn't specifically talking about a connection between JFK, MLK or Abe Lincoln. I was pointing out the coincidence that Ronald Reagan was also a target of an assassinator.

You actually think Obama will be assassinated? How and by whom?

As Foxrac mentioned, security has tightened up significantly over the years and we haven't had an assassination attempt on a President since 1981 (Reagan).

Hear Again, For me, Yes I believe that he will be offically assassinated.. how and by whom? I can't tell you how & by whom.. You know there are lot of enemies already betray B.Obama around. they already plot to assassin him, but fail. there will be still coming new planning to kill him in some way in anyhow. you will wait and see. there is no question nor asking.
