Hi I have other type of Disabilities I'm not deaf and I just through that some of you probably have been receiving VESID Services or had in the past So I sign up and post this for a little bit of help but if this is not the Forum for this let me know some other forum sites or other website.

I,m 22 year old from Brooklyn new york and in High School I always attended Special Educations and My Disabilities is Learning Disabilities Which means that its take me time to learn than others and My Condition is Panic disorder and Depression.I receive VESID Services Vocational Educational Services Individual With Disabilities I don't know if anyone heard about it.I took an academic test a year ago and My vocabulary was 5.8 reading comprehension 2.8 and everything else below and worse. What came out from the result of the test Maintenance,Food Service and Recommendation:Supported Work. My VESID Counselor said that she is going to close my case because its been open for 3 years and that I don't know what I want to do so.

She is thinking of sending me to another supported program because the one that I'm going called YAI she not going to be able to paid for it why would I want to go to other supported program that keeps you waiting for about a year to start working in a job? It makes me feel like not doing anything no college or nothing going on in my life learning the same thing ever once a week how to be prepare for an interview. What I want is to go to a school so that I could be prepare for college and take some Remedial classes or something in college so that I could be at the level of college. But I can't

My mom is an home health aid part time she doesn't earn much and she going to retired in 1 year my father is an taxi cab I don't know how long hes going to support us and I don't know for sure if I will receive SSI I would have to wait and see. Also My VESID Counselor said that if she put me into a school than my case would be close its is not work goal.I have the throught of learning an trade skill and I don't know what also making a decent living to support myself if at least I'm not in college but a job coach was teaching the other day at this program that I still go to Every once a week called YAI and he said the trade school is a scam.

That many don't graduate and don't have a job VESID do paid the trade school but the rest I would have to paid and end up in debts.I want to be proactive this falls I have no friends and no want one is going to help me.My VESID Counselor gave about until Monday and I wasn't able to find anything on these past years on my own I also don't have an answer for her I think I should use VESID only for jobs not for paying schools what do I say that I want to work in a Restaurant? Because she said there was an place hiring setting up tables or I don't know if going to the library will work for me and find different occupation maybe but will going to the library will work? I also wanted something better than this.

going to supported programs make me feel like not doing anything in my life no college or anything learning the same thing every once a week and I don't know what's have been wrong with me that I can't find anything on my own.

These are problems you need to address with your VR counselor.

I Already did last week and explain everything to her she said that my option is
what I want to do I probably would say going to college but with my parents problems I don't know now. Also I don't want to failed knowing that I had a very low score when I went to the ICD International Center for the Disabled and did an academic test that I mention and it came out food services, and maintance
she said that she going to close my case on Monday if I don't know what to say.

I could always go to college on my own in the further if I have money
I'm not too sure if I will receive SSI yet but I probably use VESID only for work she said that an Resturant was hiring setting up tables I probably may not like it much but would going to the library looking for occupation be helpful or probably not? I don't know if it will work for me.

its been these past years me having nothing going on.Support work or programs I feel like I'm not getting no where with them.

That is the way it works. She is offering you the options that are available to you. You need to make a decision as to which option you want. They can't do it for you.

Maybe you need some other counseling besides what the VR can offer. You seem to have trouble making decisions.

The only way to find out if you like a certain job is to go ahead and get a job. Try it out for several months. If you don't like it, you can try a different job. There are always opportunities to move up, too. Even with learning disabilities, you can work in retail like Walmart, Target, etc. Lots of people with LDs work there. Even immigrants who don't have strong English skills work there.

Even while you don't have a job, consider volunteering. You can volunteer in a wide variety of settings and you can discover what piques your interests. Plus, it's nice to have volunteerism on your resume. You could join a club that does various volunteering activities and you can work on some skills there.

Those job programs like VR and VESID are not there to actually place you with a job. They can't force an employer to take an employee, but they can find jobs that match your skills and interests and it's up to you to apply yourself.

Could it be that you are afraid of change or afraid of trying something new and having it end up failing?

She was thinking of sending me to wanna of these programs finding my interest but I don't want to keep waiting for another year and turn 23 I'm thinking of going to a school or going to college in the further I'm turning old now and I may start with alot of classes as well. But then again with the things that is going on with my parents I don't know if it is possible.

I think its a good idea to start in a restaurants or something else and then get something better but I don't know it maybe a possibility that I maybe afraid cause if I work on a restaurants what ever I say it is written and than if I start working My case maybe close so I may have a hard time finding an job on my own cause I haven't done anything in these past years.I may not be sure if I'll will receive SSI it may affect if I start working
