I can't stand it when a hearing person(s)...?

What annoys you most about hearing individuals.

Some ignorant hearing individuals will say "I'll tell you later" when you ask them what they're laughing about and they forget what the joke is. You feel excluded or are behind on the news because of that kind of attitude. However not all hearing individuals are like that.

I can't stand it when a hearing person tells me "Oh it's nothing," "I don't have the time to tell you this again," or "Nevermind."

Also, I can't stand it when a hearing person who knows sign language takes advantage of me by talking to someone else without signing with me around. I feel like I'm being backstabbed.

And I can't stand it when I ask a hearing person to repeat or rephrase a sentence or our conversation, that person just rolls the eyes or gives me a dirty look (even if it's a friend or a stranger).

I can't help it when I don't understand what she / he said at all times.

Most of all, I can't stand being left out alone in a group conversation with hearing participants. :| I often keep asking them what we're talking about because I cannot keep track of everyone's speaking at all times.

ChelEler said it all -- i also cant stand being around my family for big events for too long either cuz im always left out -- even tho my sister and mom signs they dont really tell me much of anything --

im MUCH more comfortable with my deaf pals than i am with hearies/hearie family members -- even once bluntly told mom i am tired of being left out so therefore i refused to particpate in the last family reunion and chose to go somewhere else with my deaf pals and told her that my deaf pals are my family -- it pretty much :shock:

her but that was how i felt specifically -- i know truth hurts but she oughta know and so does the rest of the family oughta know as well -- it pretty much upset everybody but seem they handled it ok *shrugs* im tired of having to *tap tap tap* my sister's or mom's shoulder to ask them whats going on only to see them say "ill tell u later" or "ohh i cant keep up with everybody's comments and saying my own" or "never mind its not important" im like :wtf:

and im not going to waste my time arguing with them -- just seems easier to let them live their lives and i live my own -- if they wanna tell me whats up they can do so -- i dont tell them much of my own life anyway cuz i treat them the same way they treat me

-- besides im usually the LAST to know of anything big happening in the family :roll: :ugh:

I told her get lost !!! so one day i decide to intive my mom over to my place with whole deaf folks ... she asked everybody what what what ??? then she asked me what are they talk about ??? i said I will tell u later .. she yell at me and she said it is not proper treat like that .... I said BINGOOOOOO EXACTLY HOW I FEEL THRU THE CHILDHOOD AND PRESENT SEE WHERE IT COME FROM ??/ SHE WAS GASP AND PISSED OFF AND LEFT ... AND NOW SHE STOPPED CALL ME OR COME VISIT ME ANYMORE ... Yeah!! I've done that to my mom several times, but we're closer to each other now instead of losing each other's touch, because she got the idea how I felt. My dad is a sweetheart but he can be ignorant sometimes. :squint:

Right now, my mom and dad are here with me in my home (I'm at work right now, but you get the idea) and they're staying until Sunday morning. I've noticed that they both are working hard on trying to get my husband and I involved in their conversation as well as we are with ours. (They don't know ASL very well but they know fingerspelling.)

Sometimes my husband thought that he's being ignored quite often, because my dad doesn't really talk much with him. I told him that it's who he is. He's not talkative, but my mom is! :lol:

(Sometimes I act as a deaf interpreter for my husband and I LOVE it!

) My mom rarely asks me to interpret, because she really wants to be able to communicate with my husband by herself, and I support that!

I saw it TommyGirl. The episode, if I remember correctly was title The Heist.
I brought home that issue of alienation between hearning and deaf person very nicely. The black woman who is learning ASL, that's me pretty much. I like the scene were she realizes all the struggle the main character goes through on a daily basis. How difficult that must be. Hearing people are clueless. Show like that one are vital. I watch it whenever I am able. I learn much from it believe me.

This thread will help me awareness and will allow you to vent a little.

Tell me what bothers you most about hearing folks and what they do wrong. This is good stuff.

I hate when hearing people say something beind a deaf person's back like their looks or something...but hey, I say something back to their face cuz I am hearing and don't talk about my friends!

I hate when hearing people don't give deaf people a chance.

I hate when hearing waiters and waitresses get upset when they see a group of deaf people enter the restaurant.
