Deaf & Hard of Hearing Day: Six Flags Magic Mountain

Is it truly a "deaf and hard of hearing awareness" day when the facts tell otherwise that the majority of the more than 30 million people with hearing loss in the United States do not know or use sign language? It's nice that Six Flags at Magic Mountain is able to provide sign language interpreters but there are no real time captioning or other services for deaf and hard of hearing people who do not know sign language. At best, this "deaf and hard of hearing" awareness day looks to be more one sided and not a real "melting pot" of deaf and hard of hearing people of various communication preferences. At worst, it's a continued discriminatory practice. If Six Flags is serious about raising deaf/hh awareness by inviting people with hearing loss to come to their amusement park then they need to be aware of the fact that the majority of people with hearing loss (from mild to profound) do not know sign language and that alternative communication options must be realized.

Why? but some hearing loss people can speak right? I don't know much about these hearing loss people who does not know sign language. can they at least let others know something about it?

This is good for lots of deaf/HOh to meet old faces and new faces to meet each other again. :dunno:

4 words for you - shut the fuck up. and enjoy the rides. would you like that in CC or cued speech?

Don’t you have anything better to do than to sit around and make a mountain out of molehill? Talk about hypocrisy here.

Since you created this thread. I understand that you have been at gallaudent before. so i am pretty sure that you do familiar with this situation very well. can you suggest any ideas to let them know about deaf awareness day about hearing loss level and whose do not know sign lagnauge. sicne you know so mcuh about it and help others who they have been through like you have been there before.

ask others who are in the same boat as you do, and collect tons of names that should work well.

Same boat as I am? What do you mean? We are all in the same boat.

I rely on captioning for everything except for one-in-one conversation. But at least Sign Language is visual.

I am not the one who complains or thinks how hypricote about deaf awareness day at 6 flags. I had no problem with the rides in the past. :dunno:

Six Flags do have shows. They have interpreters there. What about captioning?

curious - do you need captioning for Six Flags?

Keep letting them know about it over and over until they get the point.

The Six Flags in Atlanta does have Deaf Awareness Day in last May 8 and the ticket price was $25 with exit access bracket included.

I went Six Flags Magic Mountain in 2004 and it was fun, nothing is wrong with it.

he does not know sign language thats why captioning is needed.

How do you know that?

Secondly, it's about the rest of the deaf and hard of hearing people who don't know sign language and would require other means of communication to enjoy what Six Flags has to offer during Deaf/HH Awareness week.

nope, unless there is a speaker for the whole crowd or videos. Make me wonder why deaf have an ASL interpreter there in the first place?

But for each individual person, no, because that would lose the purpose of being oral deaf in the first place.

on the other hand I do have to take out my hearing aids because I lose them in rides... even if I put it in my pocket.. I have to wear my fannypack just for that purpose, but even with that, I'm scared to lose it.

I wouldn't make this thread if i dont understand the interpreter. :aw:

Some of us who understand interpreters and have no problem with it. Indeed, I agree that having captaining would be GREAT. I d love to have captaining everywhere included movies. someone need to speak out because there are too many people who have hearing loss and dont know sign languages are more than these hearingloss people who knows sign languages.
