I wrote and article on my blog to help 'hearing' people improve their communication skills with any deaf or heard of hearing people that they may know. Obviously this leaves out signing.
It may be a useful guide for passing on to your hearing friends and family. Even if you have a different perspective it can be a great conversation kick off point to say, "Read this but I have different requirements I'd like to bring to your attention..."
