Keep in mind, this is like test driving a vehicle. You want to get a feeling of vehicle before you buy. You decide to go to phone store to "play" with phones before making a purchase. How much time will you take to test a phone?

I never have. Just bought after reading everything about each one considered.

None. Between certain features etc that I need/want and my price range, my choice is usually narrowed down to one phone. So I just buy that one and then get used to it after I buy it.

But I am the same with cars. I do all the research and am pretty sure what I'm going to do ahead of time. I do a nominal test ride just to make sure there's nothing really horrible about the way it drives, and I have my mechanic look it over, but as far as nuances in how it handles or feels, I just get used to it after I get it.

Never. I narrow my choices down to the technical aspects of "what's under the hood", then all other features, reviews, appearance, etc. are considered.

Less than half an hour--zero time. I prefer to do research, read reviews, find out what my carrier offers, and try to get a good deal. I'll have to learn how to use it when I get it. It's not like I buy a new phone every year.

I spend very little time................I ask my son what I need and get it. Phones do not live long with me though. Something about dropping them, carrying them all the time, dust, life.

A different perspective, how much do you look at the texting/email ability of a phone and the ability to run a decent vrs ?

None......My kids let me know what is best and I go with that. This year the kids are divided in their likes. I have Apple and my one daughter is designing an app for Android and thinks they're the best.

I seldom use my phone, in fact have no idea what it can really do.
