I did once on Sprint HTC Touch Pro to gain access to Windows Mobile 6.5 which Sprint don't approve the official rom upgrade. I also did it with Blackberry smartphone before HTC phone. First was bricked, but lucky to get replacement and managed get it upgraded with compatible version from Vezion.
Now my 2 years contact with Sprint is almost over, so I can get Android phone when I renew my contact. I'm getting Samsung Epic G4.
I will be honest you are speaking a foreign language as far as I am concerned![]()
Yeah....that's techno-babble to lot of people...even to me. There are stuff lot more complicated than I can figure it out with that stuff.

I usually flash ROMS as a last resort or if I know I have nothing to lose. I try to abide by the saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Having the latest version does not necessary imply that it is better, etc.![]()
Wirelessly posted (Samsung Captivate (i897))
I believe newer dvd players can do the rom flashing? I rarely see usb ports on it.

I am not sure about the newer dvd players. My friend's Panasonic DVD player searches for updates "over the air".
I also have an old, cheapo DVD player that could be updated by connecting the DVD player to the PC. I have never tried it though, because it is too much hassles.

You haven't mentioned which BB you have and how it's bricked.
