Let's say you got a storage unit to rent with a friend. The cost is $60 a month.

You would decide to:

1. Your friend and you will each pay $30 every month

Or

2. You pay the full $60 this month. Your friend will pay the full $60 next month. You agree to alternate every month.

Does it matter??? Which will you prefer and why??

$30 each month. simpler and easier that way. when alternating, people forget.

I think you missed the part were you need to get it in writing that the friend will pay. Include a witness and work out the details in the document.

Two things generally ruin friendships: the opposite sex and money.

Get it in writing, get receipts, and split it monthly. It sucks to have to be so formal with friends, but I've had friendships ruined over money in a situation like this. In my case, it was my refusal to help pay more than my half of the base cable bill after my roommates kid ordered $1500 in pay per view porn in one month.

Wow, that sucks. Sadly, you can't have business relationships with friends.

Yeah...I've learned the hard way: Never live with your friends, never loan them money unless you don't expect it back, and never go into a binding agreement....unless you don't mind the friendship being ruined.
