At this point, I think everyone can make fun of the Irish :D
*slurring my words* I'll drink to that!

People make fun of me, because it's easy to do.

Koko is Irish, is he not?

*gulp* You mean, we're related?

See, this shows how racial stereotyping and profiling are so wrong. We are similar in about 3 ways, and dissimilar in hundreds. We are both stubborn, we are both probably fair skinned, and we pee standing up....oops that is a sexist thing.

With the picture I posted, I was making light of all the drunken Irishman jokes I see. I am 50% Irish, the rest of me is mixed bag/mutt. Not all Irishmen drink, including me.

Obviously not. And in your case and many others, you're making fun of the racial stereotype, not the race itself.

Look, I understand what you're saying, and I'm saying that you're wrong. It's funny that you would mention the "gray matter" here, as that is precisely the type of analogy I am trying to get at. In fact, it is you who is sticking along the lines of black or white. In this case, you think something is either racist or it isn't, regardless of who posts it and the context it is posted in. What I am saying is that it all depends on context. Yes, IT REALLY DOES MATTER what the race of someone is when they make a joke that deals with race. Humor is a very complex aspect of communication that relies on many historical, social, and ideological contexts. And, certain types of humor must be executed by someone who is credible, who has the ethos to make such a joke. A German cannot make Jew Jokes. A White person cannot make black jokes, etc. etc. I am sorry to tell you this, but because Jiro is Asian, he has the credibility to make such a joke, and in this case, it is NOT racist. That does not mean that Jiro can post pictures that make fun of Asians whenever he wants and it will never be racist. Not at all. But in this context, it was not.

It's not a double standard. A double standard would be if another Asian person on the board made the same post and got banned for it.

It *can* become a double standard. You make it to be a clear cut case that only a person of a certain ethos can only make that kind of ethnic joke and not be seen as racist. Which is ultimately a bit of baloney not to mention obviously reeking of political correctness here. Credibility? Oh, please! This PC thing is just utter nonsense! You're the one making a black and white case here! Please note that you said it require "credibility." It require of the same ethos for it to work for that same ethnic joke. All very strict requirements to "work." All very black and white here.

Here's the thing. You laughed at that poster. Only because it was "safe" to do so and only because the person is of the same race, relatively so. All what you've done is very, very PC.

What about mulattos? What about mixed heritage? What about Germans with Jewish faith (yes, they do exist)?

All this is simply a grey area. saywhatkid said it right. He thought the picture was funny and said he would've gotten into trouble had he put it up. But the thing is, you and others *did* laugh thinking it was a funny picture. You don't get it? The picture is still racist no matter who puts it up but made worse by people who thought the picture was funny. Get it? You need to ask yourself why was it funny in the first place? But for people to laugh at that picture can only make others question their reason for laughing and that one reason is perhaps that little bit of racism briefly rose to top during their moment of laughter?? Or maybe you were laughing about the situation and not the picture itself as part of the whole joke? We're you really laughing thinking the picture is that funny in of itself? Or were you laughing about the situation around the picture and not really the picture per se?

We have Germans of Jewish faith. We have mulattos. We have people with mixed heritage that don't even look it. Can they do it, too? We have mulattos who don't look black but more of the caucasian type, can they do black jokes, too?

Black and white? You wish. "Credibility" can only go so far. There are factors here.

aw koko.... Sum Ting Wong???? still so bitter about the ban? aawww that must have really hurt your feeling. You can lift a 800 lbs tire but you can't lift this little thing out of your mind? need a HUG?

Again, koko... you got banned for your intention behind the image and you deserve a ban - most likely tasteless. In case you still don't get it - it's not the picture that was tasteless. I got banned for a month for my intention behind the image which was considered offensive and tasteless - a pix of a dog peeing on lady's face. A MONTH!! the duration of my ban was doubled!! Fa Kin Su Pah!!!! :cool2:

Did I continue to bitch about it afterward? not at all! Do I hold grudge about it? LOL! these ADers here can vouch for me. And looking at you... you're still bitching like a little whiny kid
