Hostile society of the hearing people

It's not an argument about how some deaf people are treated by some hearing people. My personal issue is that I feel like I am being stereotyped due to how some deaf people chose to word things. thanks for clearifying the 95% :giggle:

Well if you were thinking the same thing, didn't you notice you were one of the hearing? And furthermore one of the hearing with no real deaf connection.

I frequently disagree with Jillio, but she has lots of experience with deaf people, a deaf son, and a PhD.

You should be far more respectful to her until you have some of the same qualifications.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Someone who is just taking some ASL classes and has no understanding of deaf culture and what it is like to live a life of no hearing.

:gpost: The hearing who are new to the Deaf community have no idea what many of us go thru on a daily basis. I've had to deal with people who believe i'm borderline MR even within my own family; I learned from my doctor that a member of my family thought I had a low IQ and that I couldn't learn very much last month.

The title of this thread does not include all of the hearing. Just those who turn hostile toward deaf.

I cannot count the number of times that people assumed my son was MR because of his speech patterns. Infuriating!

I can imagine. :P In my case, it's because I say what too often and in my family case, it's because of a combination of saying what too often and my problems with schools - especially anything to do with math.
