Wondering if anyone have used www.no-ip.com or www.dyndns.org for your videophone (either dlunk dvc 1000 or S VP 100) if you have dynamic public IP address?

Your VP has a host name entry under Network Address page (S VP100 - Settings, Network, Address)

The problem is the host name box holds up to 15 characters.

like it or hate it? Why or why not?

you don't have to fill out on the VP box, when the dyndns will email to remind you nearing expiration and go to account and click update to avoid expires, doesn't change anything unless your IP had changed..

I alway update my VP addy before expires, they don't delete the hostname. :)

I don't see why we would need more than 15 characters for a host name. I've seen websites that have titles that are just too damn long that when I bookmark it quickly, it ends up making the drop-menu too damn wide. There are some website titles that are long... but don't even take up 15 spaces. It's like those annoying AIM screen names that are so long that they're a waste of space. If we were to permit very long names for video phones, those name would take up the space and we would have to shrink the display screen just because of that. I think 15 is enough. ;)

You dont need to add your host name in videophone. If you have Dlink router, you can add host name into this router

1. Use your internet explorer's address and type http://192.168.0.1
userame > Type "admin" and password is blank and click OK

2. Tools > Misc.

3. DDNS: Enabled

(For dyndns.org)
4. Server Address: members.dyndns.org.
Host Name: your host name.homeip.net (example: joedoe.homeip.net)
Username: your username
Password: your password name

5. click "Apply"

Or No-ip.com

Server Address: dynupdate.no-ip.com
Host Name: your host name.no-ip.net (example: joedoe.no-ip.com)
Username: your username
Password: your password name

Click "Apply"
