A golden Labrador may have a small, walk-on part in the reality television show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” as it films this week in northeast Salem.

Highland neighborhood resident Michael Parker, 29, read about the show surprising the Oregon School for the Deaf and decided to walk by on Monday.

He brought his Lab, named Stella, and managed to join the crowd of Oregon School for the Deaf students, parents and faculty having their back-to-school picnic. Parker was corralled into the picnic setting to fill in the crowd as the production crew shot multiple takes of the announcement.

Stella was more popular among the students, Parker said.

“All I really did was sit there and looked pretty,” he said.

Parker, who has lived in the neighborhood for four years, hasn’t attended the school’s famed haunted house, but said he’ll definitely go this Halloween. He also can’t wait for the show to air.

“I’ll be looking forward to the episode and trying to pick myself out of the audience,” he said.
