This year, the Gallaudet University Academic Bowl for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students celebrates 10 years of existence. The West Regional will take place March 2-5, hosted by the New Mexico School for the Deaf in Santa Fe, N.M.
The National Academic Bowl is sponsored by Gallaudet University and its five regional centers around the country. This year’s national sponsors are the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, Sorenson Video Relay Service and Verizon.
The West Regional promises to deliver excitement. Teams will compete for the top two spots, ensuring a trip to the National Academic Bowl competition in April 22-25 at Gallaudet University. Last year’s West Regional representatives were Roosevelt High School (Seattle) and the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
Since its inception in 1997, the National Academic Bowl’s purpose has been to foster the pursuit of academic excellence, promote a spirit of academic competition and good sportsmanship, and encourage social opportunities for collegiality among students. More information about the National Academic Bowl is posted at http://academicbowl.gallaudet.edu.
