Hi Peepz!

Well first off... I was born completely deaf in my right ear and this was not discovered until I was five years old when I started answering the telephone.

The doctor said that there would be a good chance that I could drastically loose my hearing as I entered middle age. The time has come and after 30 blarring teenage concerts and a construction carrier what he said has come true.

I know absolutely noone that is deaf and I'm now I'm trying to learn ASL before I loose all my hearing. I dicided to join a forum hoping to get advice on how to learn with no one to practice with.

I have many stories that I'm sure everyone has herd before, but that is just the newbie in me about the subject. Like I have to stand real close to someone if we are outside just to hear them and guys thing that I'm challening them to fight. They get real rude and biosterous.

But this is one guy that has lived with it my whole life so I don't trip on it. I just want to be prepared for when and if I go complete deaf.

This forum looks really cool. I'm the type of person that likes to post pictures, jokes and just have a good time.

I'm looking forward to getting to know some of the people here.

Later!

Welcome to AD! :) In regards to learning ASL, one of the best things you can do is to participate in your local Deaf community. When I learned sign (PSE, SEE and ASL) in 1995, I was encouraged to practice with other Deaf and deafblind people and it really helped develop my skills quickly.

Thanks! Anyone like funny baby pictures. I'm into body language and facial recognition and they are the funniest!

On one forum we would find funny baby picture in t-shirts and we would edit the t-shirts with different captions. The editings not always was good, but the sayings were hilarious.

Looking forward to having fun here soon!

Deafblind/Postlingual

This is something that I have thought about all my life and I always come to the same conclusion. I'd rather stay the same. It might confuse and complicate things if all of a sudden I can hear. I spent my whole life learning how to deal with deafness. I wouldn't want to waiste all that effort and start the learning process all over again.
