Hereditary Hearing Loss

I have hereditary hearing loss--dominant, non-syndrome. The progress in genetic research in this area is great if it can lead to real treatments. My concern is that the information will be used for prenatal testing to eliminate effected offspring. I wouldn't have used prenatal testing if it had been available when I had my kids. Some parents feel very differently about hearing loss/deafness though.

Someone told my mother the reason I am HOH because mom visit the zoo when she was pregnant with me and when see was looking at the lions mom had her arms on her belly!

What kind of weird superstition is that? LOL!

I am not sure how I contracted my hearing loss... all I know is that I was born with it. I am not sure if it is just genetic (we don't know of anyone else with a hearing loss in the family) or if maybe somewhere along the lines something just happened. I am actually really curious as to how I got my hearing loss. No one has ever told me and I'm not sure if anyone else actually knows. Would I be able to ask my audiologist?
