Helpful ideas of how to stop the bleeding?...

There's a recently developed method for stopping bleeding. It's a liquid adhensive. ;)

angel, you said when you used wash rag and wrapped it and didn't stop bleeding. Was that because you didn't hold your finger up above your head?

for example you apply bandage to your wound on finger then rest your hand on counter. that won't work because you are still pumping bloods to your finger since it is below your shoulder. so your finger need to be held up higher so it will slow down the flow and lessen bleeding. Also, applying pressure to the finger below where the wound is to stem the flow.

as for tobacco, that's not unheard of. but is a "mistake" to use according to this: http://www.kcfirstaid.com/images/first_aid_myths_mistakes.pdf
But I am thinking that it just act like a gauze pad to absorb the blood and at the same time stop the bleeding. It does not do anything special. (check the article)

*shrug* but as always (my boy scout experience) is to apply pressure below the wound when holding finger up above your shoulder level. Of course after cleaning the cut and dressing it.

Oh yeah and interesting link.
I suck my finger/thumb in my mouth to stop bleeding for few seconds... no more bleeding... It look like that I don't have any problem to prevent bleeding...:dunno: Anyway, it's good information that I can learn how prevent bleeding in the future if suck my finger/thumb is not work but it should not bleeding again next time... It would cause low iron on your body if you carry on try how to prevent bleeding contuinely. Check with doctor straight way for iron level test .... I'm not sure which vitamin to prevent bleeding in the future. I think it's vitamin C, K or D... (I'm not sure which one - I'm going to google to find out later).

If anyone who have problem to prevent their bleeding, then have to change diet like eat more vitamin C, D, E and K. (eat green salads, & vegetables, fruits, fiber grains) to help to stop bleeding in the future.

hahahaha GalaxyAngel, you may be right about that ;)

The way ive done it is to wrap tightly in cloth and then hold above heart level like over your head. give it some time and the bleeding will stop. i never heard of tobbacco trick and seems like it may have worked. with all the other chemicals and stuff in tobbacco, i would worry about getting infected.

I saw a very old book that was fading with tan-brownish book cover in the Deep South somewhere it was in a museum somewhere, I don't remember where because I was a kid at that time but I do remember seeing a book very old written in the 1800's and it said " Tobbacco Medical Remedies "
