I have created a new thread and survey as many people have felt offended. Sorry for any inconvenience cost.

Why not post questions here? Deaf cats need to know how to use computer mouse properly, not chase real mice. Make deaf cats use computer mouse to scroll up and down the monitor so that they can read questions, then click "yes" or "no". Satisfied?

The answers to your questions have been posted dozens of time here.

Btw - most of us find the term "hearing impaired" offensive ...

hmmm

Well for One Maybe you should READ around a forum first before
1. Posting in a section that isn't INTRODUCE YOURSELF
2.Asking a question that has been asked a MILLION times already...AND
3.Calling Deaf people "impaired" it isn't polite and we don't like it...

Maybe IF you had been nicer and been a regular poster for a few weeks and maybe posted general questions about deafness already that weren't so rude, I'd be more inclined to help you but the fact that you've gone out and just posted for the first time this crap I now hope no AD posters give you any help what so ever.

p.s. in regards to your name ...we don't need defending most of us can defend ourselves thanks

We are Deaf not hearing imapired!! Stop being a lazy student and actually do some research and read through some of the thousands of posts here and you would have your answer without even needing to ask a question. I am sure that was the intent of your instructors assignment. Why should we do YOUR homework for you??????

Your survey questions are very offensive. It is much advised you delete it, go and do some genuine reading up at home, library, or on this site and do your homework.

Really? Hearing Impaired isn't bad word.

some are fine with the term "hearing impaired" but a good majority of deaf people do not like it. It's either d/Deaf, or hard of hearing, not hearing impaired. Most d/Deaf/hoh people do not consider themselves impaired in any way, so "hearing impaired" is quite offensive to them. I don't consider it offensive myself, but that's just me. But I can understand why most say it is and know better than to use the term in general.

It is not just the term 'hearing impaired' that I was referring to, but also the implication that we need a device to keep us from danger as if we can't take care of ourselves! Oh please! ....Deaf Defenders - what is that? - some sort of 'superhero' fantasy?

I am really sorry if I had offended you in any way. From what I have learnt, there are some who found the term 'deaf' offending and 'hearing impaired' was a more subtle way of addressing the deaf... :eek2: And the reason why I needed to do a survey was so I can show my in-charge of the statistics. Apparently, answers from forums do not count. I am really sorry for any inconvenience cost to anyone here but I still hope you can help me. :aw:

Ehh... I really didn't mean to offend you guys. I am really sorry... And the name was what my group decided to go with, it wasn't really meant to tease anyone here.

What was the name of your "group" meant to mean then ?

That you wanted to "help" defend deaf people (which is condescending and paternalistic and not going to "win you favour" at all. We're perfectly capable of doing anything we want on our own without the "help" of hearing people)

or

That you need to "defend" yourselves against deaf people? (which is just ignorant and stupid ... hoh and deaf people are just PEOPLE.)

DeafDefenders: I just completed your survey a couple of minutes- ago. It seems to me-not exactly the real situations of life -person who are DEAF/ having a Hearing Loss.

To me one must be alert "all time" in real life even though I have/ use a Cochlear Implant.

Not asked- I became bilateral DEAF- December 20, 2006

Yup! We have also surveyed hearing persons and many of them admitted to not being alert.

I took a look at the survey. Many deaf cats and ferrets wouldn't know anything about cell phones. It would be nice to add something to survey about deaf cats playing with cat nips and sharing cat nips with hearing cats.
