Hello all,
I have just found this forum by googling "problems whilst wearing hearing aids".
I know this has probably been discussed loads before but... I was fitted with the small open fit behind-the-ear hearing aids about 3 weeks ago. I have been wearing them daily as recommended. I have been experiencing the normal issues with getting used to sounds etc and I don't have a problem with perservering with this as hopefully it will even out. Also getting used to using a phone... weird having to hold a phone halfway up my head!
What I am having a problem with though is the actual aid in my ear canal. Some days it goes in no problems, feels comfortable and I barely notice it is there (apart from being able to hear!) Other days - like today - it feels uncomfortable; one of them feels like Ive got water in there and eating, touching face sounds muffled. When I move my jaw it feels painful...

Is this normal??? It is days like this I really feel like giving up with them.

Right, I agree. It might be a fit problem or it might be an insertion problem. Or possibly you might even have an infection in your ear, or maybe even a dental problem that is affecting your jaw.

My guess, FWIW - probably an insertion problem, since you said most of the time it's fine. Make sure that it is firmly in place, and correctly in place. Can you use a lubricant like Oto-ease on it? That might help.

I agree with the suggestion about a follow up with an ENT or audiologist. This might sound silly, but did you check your earmold to see if there was moisture in there? Even the slightest bit of moisture will impact the transmission of sound through your hearing aid. Also, tip about oto-ease and putting on earmold again to make sure it's properly in the canal is a good suggestion.

I argee with CSign too, I had a problem with my earmold sometimes but a clean up won't hurt! :)

I notice you said that you have open fit HA's. It could be the domes, sometimes the plastic can be uncomfortable, or even rub the inside of your ear. My recommendation would be to get soft silicone molds. They not have very small/discrete ones that don't feel occluded and yet are very comfortable.

sometimes on hearing aid problem my hearing happened reason serious my earmod inside! I aware it tough not easy! I guess my audioglist said test fine normal 3 or 5 yrs depend your hearing aid!

As others have suggested it might be worth a return visit to your audi for advice.

However, it does take a while to get used to the feeling of earmoulds in your ears. I have worn HAs for forty years and even now when I get new moulds done, about once a year, they usually feel strange for a while. Do persist in wearing your HAs and you may find that after a few weeks you will get so used to your ear moulds that you forget that they are even in your ears.
