Hi! I am hearing and an ASL student. I am learning ASL b/c I love the language. I do not want to become an interpreter...I give everyone who does major credit!!! I started signing with my now 6 1/2 yo when she was a baby (she is hearing). She learned so fast I went to classes to get ahead of her! She would point to things and wait for me to give it a name!
Since starting classes, I am hooked. I started a social group with another woman to give us a chance to just use our signing with others. We now have a very large group that meets regularly and include d/Deaf/HH/ASL students. I have also been tutoring hearing homeschool students...I am happy to say many of them are going on to take ASL classes at college. I enjoy getting ppl interested in ASL as a language and seeing them go on to learn more.
As a hearing family we sign a lot around our home. My kids are becoming comfortable signing with our Deaf friends from our social group and have been encouraging our young friend (4 yo) who has dual CI to sign more with them.
Anyway, I look forward to joining AllDeaf

to AllDeaf forum. Wowee!!! That is amazing that you hearing people, little or big people, can sign ASL to each other and at school. I have to agree with avwdng29 saying "Keep up with the work". I am very impress on that only one thing missing is that you don't have any d/Deaf/HOH members in your family unless you have a Deaf mom/Dad or Deaf brother/sister in your own family. Is that correct? I hope you enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. Have fun with us. See you around.
