Hello, AllDeaf!
I am interested in becoming an interpreter, and I am currently taking a class about American Deaf Culture (there were no ASL classes available at the times I could take them). One of the assignments for this class is to interview 4 Deaf people about their opinions on various aspects of Deaf culture. I do not know anyone that I could interview for this project, and even if I did, my signing is terrible, and I am certain the interview process would be frustrating for everyone involved.

That started me thinking about ways to contact and communicate with the Deaf community that would make it possible for us to exchange questions and answers with the least amount of misinterpretation, and I thought that Instant Messaging would be a good, real-time method of doing this. If any Deaf or Hard of Hearing members are interested in spending a few minutes discussing their opinions on American Deaf culture, I would really appreciate it. Please feel free to contact me at alizarinkrush(at)yahoo.com, or through AllDeaf- Although I am not exactly sure how that one works yet. Looking forward to chatting with everyone.
Thanks!

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. I hope you will learn a lot about us, Deafies. If you want to become a interpreter, then you will have to find somewhere to go for ASL classes so that you can sign better. Where do you live? Maybe I can suggest some interpreting classes in your future? I was born and had lived in United States until I moved to Canada in 1995. I have ancestors that had lived in Ontario and Quebec. Right now, I only have cousins that live in the south of Ontario not far from Toronto. Anyway, welcome aboard and have fun.

Thanks :)

Thanks, everyone. I'm happy to have found this forum. I've already learned a lot.
Bebonang-
I'm in the Philly area. Taking ASL classes was my orignal intention but it didn't work out this semester. Working 45 hours a week limits what I can take. I'll start ASL in the summer. I'm a just little over my head for this particular assignment, though.

Thank goodness that you will be improving your ASL for the summer. I am glad everything is working as you go along before summer and you will be just fine. That is a full time being a student. Just take a deep breath and just relax and enjoy with us. See you around.

Hi, Sunshinelady!
What a great name! I live in Philly.
(I played hookie from work yesterday just to get some sunshine- felt like I was going to start growing mold in my dark office :giggle:)

This is a great site. I've learned a lot just cruising around. I'm glad you guys are here.
