Been using it for about 10 months and its great to spot any other stuff lurking in your computer. must warn that this is very complicated program for typical user and can lead to non-working windows. There are plenty of other resources to use such as Lavasoft ad-aware (not adware), spybot search & dDestory, yahoo antispy toolbar, microsoft antispyware program and TCPFix as well other virus removal tools. All free of charge.

If you have Windows XP, should upgrade to SP2.

First, I had Norton Anti-Virus. I thought it was good. Later, I realized that I had some spyware on my computer. I then downloaded Ad-Aware. It helped a lot. Later, I wanted to see if there was anything that Ad-Aware was missing. So, I downloaded Spybot. It helped a lot more. I started noticing that some files weren't being deleted and had to be done by hand. But, what files? That's when I got HijackThis. That's when I found all of the bad files. Since then, I haven't had problems. :thumb:

However, it's a risky program... if you don't know what you're doing. It's best to be familiar with what is listed before removing them. If you remove the wrong file, your computer could crash.

this is a VERY BIG MISCONCEPTION.

spyware is not a virus
ANTI-VIRUS programs do not remove spyware unless they specifically state so.
SPYWARE programs do not remove virii unless they specifically state so.
do not confuse one with the other.
spyware can be malicious but its still spyware , it is not virus, a NORTON ANTI-VIRUS does not remove such instances, only SPYWARE removers do.
Complete computer protection consists of having a ANTI-VIRUS program AND a SPYWARE program.
if you have cable/dsl, a safe addition to the above is a FIREWALL (such as zone alarm)

I know that spyware is different from virus. I said that I used Norton Anti-Virus. Later, I realized that I had spyware... which Norton Anti-Virus DOES NOT work with. That's why I downloaded Ad-Aware and Spybot. I wasn't thinking about spyware when I scanned for viruses. It was when someone mentioned Ad-Aware that made me realize that there were spyware that were probably sitting in my computer.

i must have misunderstood, my bad.

when you said you "thought" norton anti-virus was good, i assumed you ment that now you think less of it because it did not remove the spyware, which isnt its job in the first place.

What a minute... you say Norton Anitvirus dont detect spywares? Mine (2004) could pick up spywares and delete them. What's wrong with it? I have at least six different programs included Hijacker and WinTasks Pro to deal with bad programs/files.

Your current Norton might have anti-spyware installed. Norton has been increasing the capabilities of their software so you're probably right. :dunno:

So is Microsoft. They working on their AntiSpyware program to full version. I had beta version. Like Norton security programs, it did good job on busting/prevent spywares from being installed. But it still not perfect as other antispyware programs.
If you like to get beta version, GO HERE

But Norton Antivirus dont protect the computers from invading spywares a 24/7. I hope new 2005 have real-time protection feature. If not, I give a thought about Mircosoft's full version.
AND Spybot - Search & Destory is dead. I dont get any updates from them.

I do not trust spyware which it's still uses by malwares files and coding scripts cookies etc etc... I fed up.. i hate this spyware.. G'thing only I was use those for 2 days then DUMP 100% buh-bye...

I'm happy w/ spybots and AdwareSE pretty quite good ones!

Spy and Destory is totally BS because of faking looks good script coding remover but isn't.... which there has still kept malware files too.. Pieces of crap!
