I understand that you are confuse to keep plasma or switch to LCD. Scare about burn-in.
I have 3 HDTV (1 plasma and two LCD). My personal, I like Plasma.
My suggest... go to to public library. Ask clerk that you want to read consumer report about HDTV. They will tell you positive and negative.
For me... I go with Plasma over LCD. Why I did buy two LCD HDTV because bargain price. Last year, I bought Sony 32" LCD for $700. One month ago, I bought Panasonic 32" LCD for $499 with 5 year warranty.
My older Panasonic Plasma does not have great energy. Today, they are big improving better than 3 years ago. You will see small stamped "Energy" on HDTV. One thing sad... many new HDTV does not have built-in cable card. I like Cable Card better than Verizon FIOS HDTV Box.
