Have you ever performed in or seen Shakespeare in ASL?

I am writing my thesis about American Sign Language Shakespeare Plays. I have been researching for about a year and am wondering if any of you Deaf or hard of hearing people have ever performed in or seen a Shakespeare play in ASL. I have a list of about 30 plays mostly by professional groups, and I have emailed many state schools for the Deaf to ask them but have not gotten many helpful replies so far...I think records of plays may not be kept or easy to look up.

So I am asking any of you who want to try to remember if you have seen or performed in a Shakepseare play in American Sign Language. If you have please respond to this and tell me the title of the play, where it was performed and who performed it, the date as close as you can recall, and how it was voiced for hearing people if it was and if they were onstage with deaf actors or off stage, etc. The more information you have the better!

I would love to include all known performances of ASL and Shakepseare plays only in my thesis so thank you for your help!

Have you ever been to any play presented in American Sign Language--not just an interpreter, but the actors themselves used ASL? If yes tell me the name of it or when and where--if several tell me about how many.


Have you ever studied any of Shakespeare's plays? If so which ones and when, where? (Mainstream school or Residential)


Which (if any) Shakespeare play do you know best--which are you most familiar with?


Have you ever seen a Shakespeare play in American Sign Language with an interpreter? Which one, when and where?


Have you ever seen a Shakespeare play in American Sign Language with Deaf/signing actors? Which one, where and where?


If a theater group was nearby perfoming a Shakespeare play in ASL would you be interested in going to see it? Why or why not?
