Government blocks fuel efficient cars...70 mpg

That's interesting, I'm realized that you are correct after ask my friend about #34.

Yup, the smog pollution was terrible in past, especially LA was full of smoggy in 50's and 60's, also their streetcar service went bankrupted in 1963, and Birmingham had nasty smoggy until 1980's due to many steel and iron factories.

LA had an awesome transit system, it was dismantled in 1963, ten years later, they really really wished they hadn't.

Went to LA, needed a car. Went to SF, we went everywhere by transit.

Same thing happened in the UK after the war... started converting from streetcars to trolley buses, and then went straight to diesel buses which now can't cope with the demand.

Likewise LPG (popular alternative fuel in Europe, most gasoline engined cars can be refitted to accept it) is cheaper than gas but you get less miles per 'gallon' with it. Combined with higher road tax it tends to be used by people who want a gasoline engined car and do megamiles.

CNG is sold by the GGE, Gasoline Gallon Equivalent. its actually about 3 to 4 physical gallons of CNG but is charged as 1GGE. It the amount of CNG needed to equal the distance that would be traveled by the same vehicle running on Gasoline.
