I am not sure where to put this thread so I decided to put this under General.

There is a huge road contruction up here in Northern VA. Every time I see road construction any where in United States. Why do I keep seeing concrete tunnels. I can see huge cranes putting them in the middle of road, connecting it together.

What is the purpose of it under the highway?? For Man hole, sewage or what?? I still don't get it. I am not guru in road construction stuff. ANy one can tell me what concrete tunnel (big circle thing) is for? thanks!!!

depends on where. mostly its for drain water out so it wouldnt be flooded on highway. But it could be used by many other ways or reasons. I have to check in my construction book later (too tired right now to remember... its 3 30 am now)

That sounds like stream/creek improvement that goes under the freeway, a huge concentre tube so a sufficent volume of water goes thru during storms so it doesn't get clogged up, also probably fish would be able to get thru too.
