GOP won't forget Ried...

I would vote for anyone I felt could do the job regardless of race.

sometimes I still wonder why didn't McCain get Hutchison..... that would be a solid clinch for me

Really, you don't know what the whole context is? What happened was that Reid was totally wow'd by Obama and TOLD HIM that Obama should be the next president. And he made that comment.

But for some odd perversion that GOP seems to have, GOP wanted the public to think that Reid is a racist that hates Obama even though Reid was the ONE wanting Obama to be the president praising his oratory skills.

And Obama defended Reid tonight and said the controversy is pure non-sense.

Phony controversy for nothing. GOP is so desperate to vilify a democrat.
Thanks for backing up my point. You just gave a reasonable defense of him, but he hasn't been equally reasonable about his opponents when they say dumb things. He wouldn't let a conservative off the hook this easily. He's getting his own medicine here.

As for interpreting his remarks, I don't see them as a slap against Obama. They could be taken either as a slap against dark-skinned blacks with more of a black accent, or they could be taken as a simple assertion that light skinned blacks without an accent have a better shot at the presidency. I could give him the benefit of the doubt that he meant the latter, but would he do the same for me? I'm doubting it.

As I said, I'm not jumping on him for being a racist because I don't think he is, but rather, I'm jumping on him for the double-standard.

People don't vote for people with dialects that they don't "connect" with.

Again, it isn't about you. Apparently, even lying politicians know better than you do.

Not quite the explaination.

What about when Hillary spoke "their language" in the south with the blacks during the 2008 presidential race? She sure did try and "connect" with them using their kind of "dialect."

Exactly what is a "negro dialect"? Do you know what it sounds like? I know a few examples who are in fact politicians.

All this is a contrived effort to protect Reid at all costs by dismissing his "negro dialect" comment. Geraldine Ferraro was on Obama's campaign staff when she made a similar comment about race and preferrential treatment because of his color and was asked to leave. Why the double standard with Reid? And Lott? Why the hypocrisy from Obama?

Because they can get away with it.

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman of any color, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

I will say again, I am not racist at all. I would vote for anyone I felt could do the job regardless of race.

Exactly. Regardless if one has as an accent or dialect in this case. If he or she can get the job done and has the fortitude, smarts, skill and knowledge, then its fine by me. Funny how some would actually refuse to vote for a person for having an accent or dialect rather than look at a bigger picture. If any thing, that's a form of bigotry right there for the world to see.

plenty of studies back up what Reid said about lighter blacks speaking better have more chance of being successful:

Man, they are pulling out all the stops to protect Reid. What a way to carry his water.

If this isn't a problem then why did Reid apologize? Never mind the fact he never apologized to the black voters who might feel just as slighted by Reid comments. And one wonders why did Obama feel the need to be a part of Reverend Wright's church for 20 years? Was it so he could get some "black street cred" because he could be seen as "too white" for some potential black voters? Or in the case of Biden a "clean candidate"?

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy," Biden said. "I mean, that's a storybook, man." (Watch Biden's comments and Obama's reaction )

Biden issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, saying: "I deeply regret any offense my remark in the New York Observer might have caused anyone. That was not my intent and I expressed that to Sen. Obama."

Biden's description of Obama draws scrutiny - CNN.com

Bill Clinton about Obama would've been fetching coffee a few years ago.
Reid on the "negro dialect."
Geraldine Ferraro on being black and having preferrential treatment.
Hillary adjusting her voice and style to mimic more of the southern black audience with a tinge of black dialect.
And you have Biden talking about Obama as a "clean" candidate.

I mean, what are we supposed to think?

That Obama showers?

That he dresses good?

That he looks spiffy?

Looks intelligent?

who knows?

Somethings are taken out of porportion or take it way too literally.

I call that anal retentive....
