have anyone looked into the google voice phone number porting? it appears that if a person leaves a voice mail to your phone number, it will transcribe to text and email. Doesnt this sound like a solution for us deafies ?

I use it all the time, sometimes the transcript is dead on, but other times you get some kind of crazy text that reads like James Joyce that is NOTHING like the actual message such as this one I got: "So the suspects. Bye. Hey, but this goes to the hotel punk ass, I just want to say and I'll bye bye. If you could please gimme a call back so I don't know at the universe in Pennsylvania. I have a, I'm gonna go to the house as is. Take care. Have a great day."

Still like it, though. I like that I can give out one number and it will ring me on my cell, at work, at home -- any numbers I set at any given time. Esp. when I'm in meetings or something and can't take a call, but can peek at my email and read the transcript. I've never been to the Hotel Punk Ass, by the way, but it sounds pretty cool.

I tried it out, even though it is a neat idea, I thought it was a pain to have separate numbers for hearing people to call me. What if I'm sitting in front of my VP or computer expecting a call, but it goes to Google voice mail, then I'd have to call them back. It could end in phone tag if the hearing person does not pick up either. Besides, the major VRS providers can leave a video message anyway.

 I remember you mentioning this service before. I have got to try it out. I want to go stay at the Hotel Punk Ass.

I use PhoneTag
Since I don't get many calls (and very few voice mails) on my cellphone, I pay "as I go" - 35 cents per VM. I only use it for my cell phone...I'm not interested in all the wonderful VMs I get on my home phone. If there is an imporatant message on the home phone, I can get my daughter to listen to it for me if I can't understand it.

Like GrendelQ says, sometimes it's "dead on" and sometimes you have to decipher it.

:laugh2::laugh2::laugh2: Me too. I do love that message. I think 'have a great day,' 'PA', and 'gimme a call back' were the only things right.

if you have iPod Touch and you're tight on money due to cable bill (Internet) + phone bill.... disconnect those services and get Google Voice. It has phone # for you to text with people.

for WiFi issue when going anywhere - get a MiFi from Virgin Mobile. Only $150 MiFi router and $40/month unlimited data. no contract. no bullshit.

:laugh2: hotel punk ass. But still - its funny.

Its just somethin I thought I'd look into. there is no one size fits all. Perhaps it will work for me, perhaps it won't. My timewarner voice number is a pain since it was my proxy number for VP before we had own one number thing to call. There are still some databases out there that is still calling my voice number I use for VCO only and I have no clue why they are calling as sometimes its a automated message. my sons who can hear cant seem to understand the message either or act confused when hearing it live. maybe google voice is my answer. maybe not. Keep the responses coming guys.. thanks! :ty:
