If you wanted to search all over the world by pointing and zooming to anyplace on the planet that you want to explore -- check out "Google Earth". :) From what I am reading, it looks very cool! :) And both the download and the software is FREE from Google. :)

To get more info or to download the FREEWARE, go to either one of these links for "Google Earth":

This is sooo amazing! :) I looked up Hong Kong, China; my own town (and saw my house!); Washington, D.C., and Kensington Palace, England. :) I felt like I was traveling but not going anywhere! :)

My lappy seems ok to handle highest details at realtime 3D mapping with fast internet cable. I also spied North Korea, China, SmileyGin home, and many! I also saw beautiful scenery mountains where I went there long time ago. It's called snowy range mountain and verrrrrry beautiful!

Google has updated their new Release 4 Google Earth as of Nov (still version 4 but newer builds) 2006
Google Earth - Products

when you are done updating, be sure to check out the new features under "Layers" such as "Geographic Web" or "Featured Contents"

in "Georgraphic Web" turn on Wikepedia! that's awesome feature!

Some cites in Georgia where I used to live are now in higher resolution but not at lowest altitude yet. I am sure over few months it will be more higher than before as they update and improve their mappings.

Yup... I'm using Google earth for one year and love it...

It need get update for year that most area in LA metro are mapped in around few years ago and need be set in 2006, also there's alot of change since more buildings are coming and more new developments.

yeah, you probably will see that happen next year or two as satellites happens to scan the area you are speaking of.. it won't happen over night..

Those images are about 3 to 4 yrs old.

But you could find a overlay in high resolution and current and add to your "My Places" in Google Earth. I can't help you with that, just google for it.

Read this to understand why the images are not set to this year.

Yea, I understand about Google.

Have you tried Virtual Earth? It's same as Google Earth but support bird view.

Also, I found overlay in high resolution and added some of my area on My Place.

it is "Bird's Eye View" :)

Yeah I know about MS Virtual Earth (this software is windows only so MS is selfish eh)

virtual earth vs google earth - Google Search

lol... I got wrong word about bird view, also thanks for correct me.

What's surprise about Virtual Earth isn't work on Mac? :eek3:

It supposed work on Mac user, if not then MS need fix it.
Live Local Search

I will be Mac user in next year when go to Gally.

Thanks for link about compare with Virtual Earth and Google Earth.

Just question, Does Google Earth offers bird's eye view? I don't realize that.

that link works on mac but you can't use 3D because there is no IE 7 for mac eh

no GE don't have bird eye view yet but GE does let you view at a angle.

maybe in Pro version or in future Google may add some new feature in their GE (keep in mind Google has TWO Google Maps and Google Earth) while MS Virtual Earth is not a software but it utilize IE7 to browse fully in 3D that's the difference.

I had tried IE 7 before and don't like it then uninstalled because IE 7 was screw AIM up with different fonts and some bugs. Mac made right choice to off from IE for some reason.

Yea, I had checked on Pro version and it was little different from standard, that right about next version would add new features, such as bird's eye view.

I had tried installed 3-D on Virtual Earth and does support IE 6 then it looks same as Google Map but different is angle and not good as Google Earth does.

I prefer to use Google Earth because Virtual Earth (3-D) was hogged alot of memory.

yeah the image i noticed is old here where i live.. its not accurate.. jeez.. guess they need to update the image.. :D
