I just bought a new phone, Samsung Moment at Sprint store. I ditched my old BB Curve 8330 because I got offer $150 for any phone I upgrade. I went for Samsung. It have Android 1.5 and learned that 2.1 been released since May 7th. Today, I went ahead and manually downloaded the update and installed it. It took me at least 10 min (following instruction on software on laptop) and got it installed into Sammy. Now the screen are much sharper and cleaner plus lock button on side. I like it better. Performance seem the same as before.

The problem are that I didn't back up my contact list that was downloaded from BB to Samsung. It got wiped by Android 2.1 upgrade. Several of apps (free apps) was cleaned out too. I'm not worried about it. I will fix the problem anyway.

I like the new features in Android 2.1. I think it's worth it.

What s wrong with new HTC EVO 4G?

Yeah, I would have paid extra $50 after $150 offer for this HTC EVO so not worth it plus it's new and I don't want to have this phone that month. I would rather wait until excitement is over and hear people complains about bugs, problem ect. Once settle out then I would go for phone if it have a good review. Samsung is good enuf for now since it had been in market quite a while and it got Android 2.1 upgrade so that's good enuf for me. (Perfect timing isn't it!!)

Secondly, many VRS have not implemented software for Android's front facing camera HTC EVO so I'd rather wait and What about the payment for 4G network usage?? That's my point. 4G network have not arrived KC area yet but very soon in future.

So far yesterday and today, I have been playing with Android Sammy and it is very nice and have lot more features on Android 2.1. It even listed any "battery draining" apps when battery was low and popped up window to request to shut it down, After I touched "ok" and it did asked me if I want to know what's draining battery so I touched Yes then it listed battery draining running apps. NICE!!!

Web Browser even Dolphin browser that I downloaded are sooo nice and it's nice to see that I am able to log in Web Email and type with ease!! It's like a micro computer and it uses gesture movement to control the browser. I tap twice to blow up the web site screen and again to shrink it. There's many more of these and it's soo cool!!

As for Email, SMS messaging and any messaging, it have custom ringtone plus option to turn on vibration. I did select Android Beat for SMS and Caffinated Rattlesnake for Email  and it works nice.. It's nice to have that back that I missed Tmobile Sidekick's vibrating notification feature that my old BB Curve don't.

I noticed that my new phone drains battery pretty quick so I had to figure out how to turn off some running apps and noticed the battery drainage slowed down. I turned off (put the phone to sleep by click the "hang up" button on phone). It helped extend the battery life but don't know if vibrating notification would work even if it's on sleep mode.

I downloaded many apps. I love lever that iPhone had. One of apps that I didn't download but intrigued that there is one that you can privately grow marijuana plant until it blooms with blossom on your phone. funny isn't it :rofl2:

Window fog app that I downloaded is fun!! Tap the window fog icon to run it and it'll "fog" your phone window then you use your finger to draw smilie face or wipe it, you can see "water" runs down. To re-fog the window, just blow it on microphone and it'll fogs up again. My kids REALLY love it like crazy. They said it's soo COOWWLL!!!

I downloaded phone as modem tethering programs but haven't tried that even Sprint said can't do that but apps said it can be done. Just for fun of it!!!!

Samsung Moment of course have slide out keyboard BUT it also run onscreen keyboard IF you are not using slide out keyboard. If you held phone upright, onscreen keyboard seem narrow and bit hard to type, you can tilt it sideway and tap the "type bar" to re-open onscreen keyboard, it's much wider and easier to type. Lot of flexibility!!!!

I had to re-learn typing Sammy's slide out keyboard cuz it's wider than BB. It took me a little while to get used to it.

Streaming video.. It have Youtube. While on 3G Cellular signal, It does stream full screen but video seem a bit blurry and wee bit digitalized. Much better than my BB!! I downloaded the video file and ran it but its media player won't recognize it. I will find out more cuz there's so much more media player apps in Android Market list to try out. I can read that paid version would work while free don't. Haven't tried that but will do that soon. I noticed that Youtube video seem cleaner and sharper if I use WiFi mode on Sammy connected to my Dlink wireless Router (it's b/g wireless compatible but sadly no "n" mode).

If you happen to receive Video Mail from ZVRS through Email for Blackberry (Zalert email or any VRS's downloadable .3gp video mail), you can easily download and run it on Samsung Moment with ease, video seem bigger cuz of big screen. It ran effortlessly!! No problem at all cuz it's 3gp compatible.

Photo Gallery is nice! It seem load photos faster than my BB. I can scroll halfway and it'll load up pictures quickly before I scroll down further. Double tap the picture to select it and it expand the picture. You can hold phone upright or tilt it sideway to widen the picture. Nice!

Also for Email attachment, I seem to notice that there are "multiple" copies of same pictures in group. It does group whether it's Photo or video. I am not sure if it's a bug in
Android's Photo Gallery or not.

This is one of the best phone I've ever own and I'm happy with it. Now that I am able to browse website much more freely than BB curve!!

Last thing, I want to root the Android but there's no terminal on phone!?? How can I do that?

Samsung Moment cost only $99 and it have QWERTY keyboard.

HTC EVO 4G don't come out till June 4. It's cost $199 and no QWERTY keyboard.

Remmy that HTC EVO 4G screen is much wider than Samsung Moment and older HTC phones so Onscreen keyboard would been wider and easier to type.

My wife is going to check out HTC EVO 4G next month. See what she like the Android phone or iPhone. I let her play with my Android Sammy and her only complaint is that font need to be bigger that she can read without reading glasses. I couldn't find Font size in my new phone. I guess I didn't dig deeper to find it.

That is why Sprint trying to offer me to purchase Automotive cellular phone charger. I told them no thanks (they cost too much) so I would go for Ebay to get one with Mini USB. I noticed that newer phone are using Mini USB.

I agree with you that I'll have to deal with battery drainage. Though Android phone give you lot of freedom in price of battery drainage. I can always find a way to keep it charged.

-Get extra 120v charger in case you need it at some place that have plug
-Get 12vDC Charger so you can charge your phone while you're driving or get stuck in traffic jam :giggle:
-Use USB to Mini USB jack to plug in laptop or desktop PC to keep phone charged (I've done that at camp recently  )
-Solar power charger

Maybe next option, handheld Nuke charger
