Golf: Fundraiser proves a success - icWales

A FUND RAISING day held at Pontypridd Golf Club to give financial support to a deaf teenage golfer raised more than £8,000.

The event was held to assist Daniel Rees, who is 17 and profoundly deaf, and who will be part of the senior Wales team competing in the World Deaf Golf Championships in Perth, Australia, in September.

The event involved golf teams in competition and an auction during a function in the evening.

Daniel of Merthyr Road in Pontypridd said: “I cannot thank everyone who supported the event and help raise the magnificent sum of £8,250.”

Daniel’s mother Barbara said: “The Wales Deaf Golf Association are astounded by the amount raised.

“My thanks go to the Pontypridd club captain and members, Tom David and Hylton Thomas and everyone who supported the event.”

Wales rugby legend and Pontypridd golf member Tom David, who along with club member Hylton Thomas, were involved in fundraising and organising the event said: “Everyone who took part in the event is delighted with the sum raised.

“The money will not only provide Daniel with the financial help he needs for the trip Down Under but also the other members of the Wales Deaf Golf Association who will be making the trip”.

Tom would like to offer special thanks everyone who rallied around to help Daniel and the Wales Deaf Golf team and especially to Owen Money for providing the entertainment and Wales rugby great Steve Fenwick for presenting the prizes.
