God Bless you Edith....

What a sad story and commentary on our times. :( But I'm glad that Edith was able to remain in her own home for her final days. :)

Well, are they planning to leave her house there?

"Not that it is likely to remain. The five-story structure going up around her home is being built so that Edith's lot can be easily absorbed into the development, said Kent Voter, a superintendent for Ledcor Construction at the site.

Voter described how spots have been left so steel beams could be inserted into the concrete to complete the upper floor, assuming Edith's home is sold and torn down.

She has no known relatives, but Voter said he believed she had left her property to Ledcor's senior construction superintendent, who had been taking care of her. I couldn't reach him for this story."

Unlikely according to quotes, however, who knows! Time will tell.

Probably not due to the demand for land in Seattle. The city can't grow east, west, north or south. So they are building up.
That's a problem for many cities.

Even Charleston, SC (a very tiny city by most urban standards), has the same problem on a much smaller scale. The actual downtown "city" of Charleston is only one mile square, is surrounded by water, and has a height limit for buildings (generally, 55 ft.), and an architectural review board for historical correctness. All that puts the kibosh on a lot of building plans. They've been incorporating outlying islands and other communities in order to "expand." Space is an ongoing problem.

WOW!! She is very brave lady!

Now if they can take care of their transit system.... :cool2:

Yes, they are working on trying to keep up with the demand of using transit this fall from what it says.

I think Seattle's population for 2008 is at least 590,000. It was estimated 586,000 in 2007.

I thought it was inspiring, that she managed to hold out against big business. I would have taken the million though. :hmm:

Especially the bottleneck of I-5 between I-90 and SR-520!

Yeah, it's a major bottleneck between those points, especially the reversible express lanes goes northbound in afternoon and there is bad traffic going southbound to Seattle because of too few lanes.
