Hi everyone. I am a previous employee with the Verizon relay service, which is now GoAmerica/Nordia relay service. I am not deaf, I was in fact a relay operator and may have relayed some of your phone calls. For privacy and security reasons I will not divulge any information of any calls or any users, and for my own security I will remain anonymous.

As many of you have known, the California relay service has had problems with fraud in the past. Nigerian callers using IP relay internationally discredited the good nature of the relay service. Previously when the center was owned by Verizon business in 2006, they lacked the technology to effectively block those calls. As of January 2008, a Canadian company called Nordia, in partership with GoAmerica, a company from New Jersey, bought the relay center from Verizon. They preceded to inform us that there will be 100% fraud suppression. Their technology was implemented. Many operators predicted a 40% drop in call volume. With 500 to 600 operators employed at this facility we predicted massive layoffs. Predictions came true when the call volume dropped. Nordia promised to bring in new products to take up some of the slack. That was a lie. Now 400 to 500 people will be jobless in the central valley of California. Fraud was suppressed, yes. However, not the way we would like. Fraud is still going on, however all they did was transfer the fraud calls to a relay center in the Phillipines, outsourcing to save on labor costs, however still getting the income from the fraudulent calls. Nordia bought out our relay center to eliminate the competition so they could make more money. As soon as the contract with the state is up that center will be closed. I propose a boycott of Nordia relay. Nordia is greedy and unethical with absolutely no morals whatsoever. They do not have the deaf community as their priority. Their only priority is to fill their wallets.

I didnt know that!! Jeez.. I felt so bad if true that will be layoff :(

I hate Fraud and scammer.... they re very lazy to find a job and hurt people Huh?? Sheesh

Thanks for post here! :)

this is indeed all true.

i also will be layed off effective sometime next month (will not say exact date for identity protection purposes).

things at work have gotten bad. management is looking for excuses to fire us to prevent having to pay out 500 severance checks. there is hardly any work, people are being begged to go home, and morale has dropped considerable because we know they don't really want us there.

ip relay calls will soon all be through the phillipine center. i have used relay before, to see, and phillipine operators tend to be problematic. i can only imagine the struggle for the deaf regarding asl, because for many filipinos, english is already a 2nd language.

i encourage you all to find a different relay service than nordia as well, because we have all lost our jobs and the quality of your calls is going to suffer for it.

First of all, thanks for your good work being as relay operator to servce the Deaf community.

If you felt somewhat is not property for them do their job or met that facts they abused people become jobless.

My thinking that Governer or the state wouldn't accept due they want to keep going on fund to server for Deaf communty mean to keep you guy have job too.

My question, how do you guy can report if they bend some kind abuse with money, how can you protect yourself get hot potatoe that was you. You know what I am saying but keep up and good work being relay for our calls! :ty:

Please, please, please do us all a big favor:

Tell the FCC.

And also, heck, tell Ed Bosson himself, as he's a deaf person in a position of relevance and has publicly stated that he believes GoAmerica is doing such a great job:

Ed’s Telecom Alert » Go America, Inc Blocked Successfully Scammed Relay Calls

The sooner the FCC realizes that it's still going on, contrary to these big announcements, the better it'll be for us deaf people.

i would love to get ahold of this person. I've checked the links and really haven't found a good way to get ahold of him, however I'm not very good at looking for things. If you can provide an e-mail address I would be more than happy to e-mail Ed.

Also, bump for the boycott of GoAmerica relay services!!!
