Gas prices have risen by nearly a nickel in the past 24 hours to $3.60 a gallon here in the area.

With there being no signs of the pain at the pump subsiding anytime soon, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is among some members of Congress asking President Obama to release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Lawmakers believe that would stabilize gas prices, providing some relief to drivers.

The White House says President Obama is content to monitor prices for now, before making a decision on whether to open the reserve.
