Georgia Association of the Deaf Wraps Up Conference
Coming together to deal with adversity.
That was the theme at the Hilton Desoto for the 49th bi-annual conference of Georgia Association of the Deaf. Tonight's awards banquet wrapped up the conference which started on Wednesday. President Chris Merritt explained through an interpreter how this group depends on their togetherness on a daily basis.
"Actually that's an important component of the deaf culture. We are part of a minority group and we understand each other better so we stay together and tend to come together as a community and that also helps improve the quality of life for those that are deaf, hard of hearing or deaf blind," said Merritt.
Merritt said so far they have raised nearly five thousand dollars and the money raised will go towards their own organization for educational programs and community center organizations and other programs they sponsor.
