There was a thread a while back about planting gardens and I thought maybe there should be a recipe thread. I am searching for the "best" apple butter recipe and the "best" strawberry jam recipes ;) I think it would be nice to swap recipes and even share family guarded recipes from "grandma" if you dare

What kind of apples should I use for apple butter? I am also growing pumpkins and wonder if anyone knows how to make pumpkin butter.

Has anyone ever made butternut squash pie?

Ok, here are the OP rules for "this" thread given MODS agree.

No political discussions. So, no "communist pot pie" recipes, or "republican mud slide" recipes etc. :cool2::D

I would like to gather as many varieties of recipes from around the world as possible. Are there any Brits with a "blood pie" recipe? What sort of vegetables grow in Israel? (just examples).

I love apple butter!
once my mom and her sister <visiting from San Jose> and me made some homemade applesauce from my folks apples of their trees <the trees did not survive, there were just two of them, not really tended, when my folks bought that house>. So anyway we made this applesauce and it sure was good and made the kitchen smell wonderful! I really enjoyed that time we spent. It was just apples, water and cinnamon I think.

Hubby loves rhubarb, do you grow?

Granny Smith are the best apples for apple butter.

 Bott! :hmm:didn't know that-
you ever made pear butter? just thought of it

hubby planted strawberries a couple years ago, so far, nothing. Do they take this long?

I didn't even know there was pear butter. My great grandfather always had apple butter and cranberry jelly in crystal dishes on his dining table, so I am familiar with those.

We have made almost everything possible, so maybe we will try pear butter later this summer. :hmm:

well, let me know if you make it what you think. I never seen it or anything but thought, apples so why not pears?
sometimes I like to make chicken for hubby with a recipe of my mom's that includes cranberries and French dressing.

wonder what happened to the originator of this thread....

No, I don't, but if you can send me seeds I will.

If you mean seeds, they died. You have to use completely organic "soil" for strawberries. Not potting soil... garden soil etc. Completely organic soil.

What I do is prune the runners so the plant vests all its energy into bearing fruit (mine started turning red yesterday).
